Yup, can bus now and not difficult. I was worried about that until it was fully explained to me. Newer vehicles are easier than old. Who would have thought that?

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Not good for the car, long term. Heated seats and heated steering wheel are preferable if you keep your cars a while.

I had an Audiovox remote start installed in my 2012 Sienna in 2013. The first few years I used their subscription service that allowed starting the car from your cellphone from literally anywhere you happened to be. Was internet based so range was not an issue. Audiovox decided to discontinue the subscription thing but the remote start still works great using the fobs I got when it was installed 6 yrs ago. Has always worked great. Range with the fobs is pretty good. I can start the Sienna reliably from the furthest corner of the basement.
