Who In Georgia Is Laughing At My Tire Chains Now?
I've never seen them used on a road going vehicle. My grandfather had a set for his lawn tractor to plow the driveway, but not on the street.

I've seen tire chains. Once or twice. A long time ago. Can't say as I've ever actually seen them used. Maybe when I was a child.

Heck, I've driven in snow much deeper than that in RWD. In mountains? Well, no. But what I'm seeing in that photo doesn't look very "mountainous" to my eye.

But, hey, if it amuses you, by all means: Have at it Smile

As for 85 degree weather: It gets a darn sight hotter than that up here from time-to-time. No problem. Heck, 2nd-to-last car had the A/C condenser take a stone. When I found out it was unprotected and the $400+ repair job could be rendered moot on the way home from the dealership I said "never mind" and drove the car for another seven years sans A/C. It sucked, but this Yank somehow managed to survive it Smile

Chains? Standard equipment for rear wheel drive cars in the '50's, along with a large bucket of coal ash and small shovel in trunk.

Got me thru the Pocono mountains in a 1950 Ford.

Must use the term differently around here than in your locale. Pretty much exclusively a negative connotation here. Be like calling a Marine "Jarhead." I suppose it could be acceptable in company of friends, but would likely start a fight in any other circumstance. Kinda like the bless your heart conversations that happen around here. Intent is important.

I’m a Marine and I’ve never taken offense to Jarhead, we would say it to each other at times, but I get what you’re saying.

Couple of thoughts on this thread...

Rhino has been pretty funny

Southeast doesn't have mountains, more like dirt hills. I've explained the same thing to my relatives in southern Missouri but they don't believe me

I've spent time in the south, been called a Yankee and no one was trying to offend me nor was any offense taken. I did eat the food that was offered and thoroughly enjoyed it. Exception being grits

I've driven in freezing rain in KC MO a bunch of times. Scary unless you have the proper tires

Southerners don't know jack about winter driving

Marzy was right. Better safe than sorry. Smart man there

Did you need snow shoes to make it to the mailbox?

I love how these clowns who drive on flat, straight, plowed and salted roads make fun of people driving on curvy, hilly roads especially when the first inch or so is usually ice in the south. You could be driving a monster truck with 4 wheel drive and it's going to slide like an ice skate with no control on the hills around here. Yeah, I live on a hill and when it snows here the first layer is almost always ice, so until it gets treated driving is a no-go, regardless of how you are set up.

Chains at least give you a chance if you have to get out.

After careful consideration and fully reading every post in this thread I've come to the conclusion that no one in Georgia is laughing at your chains. However, there are 49 others states.

Best reply in here.

But throw a hurricane at the Yanks and see what they do Wink

I grew up driving in the snow in our small NC foothills. Did a few trips in weather I certainly shouldn’t have, but it served me well when it came time to drive fire/rescue trucks, ambulances and police cars in it.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

Awesome! Is this in Park City? I almost hit a cow moose just inside SF Canyon just before Diamond Fork. Their population seems to be increasing in Utah.

Didn’t mean to hurt anybody’s feelings by using the term “yankee.” I figured if a certain baseball team in the Bronx was okay with it, the term was GTG. The only time I’ve ever seen anybody being offended by being called a yankee is when a southerner gets called one. I thought most northerners were ok with it. Where I grew up, however, I think the official title was “damn yankees,” although I think some reconstruction butt-hurt ran deep in my family with the old-timers. Smile

I've lived all around the US, and yes, there are different types of snow and ice. How many words for snow and ice do the Eskimo's have?

Southern temps don't dip down as much as northern temps, and anthing hovering around 30 degrees is worse than single digit or negative temps.

Throw in inexperienced drivers, who think a 4wd doesn't need to drive slowly, but don't realize it won't stop either.

I drive an all wheel drive with Blizzaks, because I need to get where I'm going. But I grew up driving rear wheel drive trucks with sand bags in the back, where 3-4' of snow was a norm.
