Ran out of wire at this point so this will be the location for switch & outlet .. ______________________________________________ Life is short. It’s shorter with the wrong gun…

Ah, then the electrician I was speaking with was confusing a recommendation with actual code. This was a year or two ago (which probably means three or four), so I’m sure the electrician was just confused.

That sounds like a good application. Of course, it might be a little challenging with “half hot” outlets (one side switched, the other side always hot).

Not just a regular no... That would drive me nuts! Have your electrician tested for any Schedule 1 controlled substance.

I still think the optimal solution is to put the plug on the opposite wall on the left side of the sink instead of the right side of the sink.

Just for the hell of it |
I wouldn't assume it's not. You can use one GFCI to protect other outlets. All in how you wire them together. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain. Jack Kerouac

I was buying something that needed work, no. New house, it would bother me very much.

Yeah, thinking that I'd have a new house and have to look at the cords strung around to the side of the wall the whole time? My OCD just wouldn't allow it.

Looks wonky to me. Is the outlet a new work or old work box? I’m trying to figure what the framing looks like that would dictate that placement, because I can’t imagine anyone would do that on purpose.

Of course outlets can be on the ceiling. That’s how luminaires work. Now, as for receptacles. Receptacles can be on the ceiling. The GFCI cannot because it must be “readily accessible.” Demand not that events should happen as you wish; but wish them to happen as they do happen, and you will go on well. -Epictetus

those cabinets are total cheap junk, I wouldn't put them in an outhouse. BTW the plug in might be sideways because of a pocket door and no other place to put it.

Someone was thinking ahead with that setup. The switches are position to be convenient to the Vanity, something almost universal in a bathroom. As for the outlet, think about the convenience of a charging station at the Vanity. Now you can plug in your Waterpic and have a 3 or 4 way USB charger for watches, phones, and any other doodads that need a charge. About the only fault I see is that outlet should be a GFCI outlet. I've stopped counting.

Yes. Looks awful. Would bug the heck out of me. No GFCI required for location next to the sink ? 0:01

As long as the GFCI is the first in the branch, the entire circuit and all receptacles "downstream" are protected. You would not need an actual GFCI outlet at that location as long as one is inline before it.
