Watching my 1st Jimmy Stewart Movie
Lts James Stewart AND Clark Gable both flew in Flying fortresses from what was back then a local 8th Army Air Force base at Polebrook, about ten miles NW from my house here in Cambridgeshire.

One of my favorite movie rolls Stewart played was in the beginning of How The West Was Won as the trapper.

He was greatly admired by USAF folks in the day. His struggle to gain enough weight to be accepted in the Air Corps is a study in determination. Little known, when he was a reserve general, he once flew as crew on a B-52 bombing mission in Vietnam. He had retired from the reserve, but I met him in 1976 when he came to Dayton, Ohio for the dedication of a new wing of the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson AFB. I was assigned as his personal security while he was there. He was the same guy in person as in the movies, personable and polite. He was treated like a rock star by USAF personnel. Oh, how I would have loved the chance to have a long conversation with the man. I watch his movies whenever I get a chance. One of my favorite roles is as the lawyer in Liberty Valance with John Wayne, and many years later he played the Duke's physician in The Shootist. If you watch the clip from Johnny Carson where he read the poem he wrote about his dog, keep tissues handy. He was a great actor and a true American hero.

Yes! Especially if you've only seen the remake.
. One of the reasons Hollywood is in decline, all the poor quality reruns.

You gotta find a copy of "The Spirit of St. Louis". 1957.

The other two Hitchcock movies are great:

The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), not the 1934 - both are great

Rope (1934)

Anatomy of a Murder (1959) is another good watch.

Always liked him in The Spirit of St. Louis (1957).

Cheyenne Autumn (1964), a great John Ford film, has the best trivia:

The "Cheyenne" in the film are actually Navajo, and they are speaking in the Navajo language (mostly telling each other dirty jokes).

Great man, great actor.

If you haven't seen any Jimmy Stewart movies, you should be in for a treat! Many excellent ideas above.

The kind of male actor rare in Hollyweird today.

Not just starring Jimmy Stewart, Turner Classic Movies has How the West Was Won available on demand currently, with just about every actor known in 1963 in it playing one role or another. It either digitally remastered or something because it probably wasn’t as clear in theaters at the time.

Surprised that Bell, Book and Candle hasn’t been mentioned with the ever alluring Kim Novak.

Lots of enjoyable movies with Jimmy Stewart.

Agreed. My favorite. Amazing flying scenes of some amazing flying machines. I was lucky enough to crawl through one at Castle AFB some years back.

Anatomy Of A Murder was filmed in the Yoop and it was a huge thing for the locals, quite a few who were used as extras in the film. Lots of the buildings seen in the movie still exist and it is based on an actual homicide and trial.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned “The Spirit of St. Louis”. I saw it with my parents when it first came out. Excellent movie. I just watch the Philadelphia Story today.
