Have a Friend involved in Self Defense Shooting
In NC (i live in FL now just recently) the training states 'past threats' and 'past abuse 'do not mitigate a use of deadly force.

Really? The brother lived and was downgraded from intensive care to regular care per the OP. Your plan would’ve resulted in a dead body and a more severe charge.

I can see not letting people near the knife but once the brother stopped being a threat the shooter did the right thing letting the ex-GF and father take the brother to the ER.

I'm pretty sure an ambulance can give better care than the two family members. Who knows how much physical evidence was destroyed.

OP: Friend has text history of threats against him from the brother

He has *texts* from the brother. I think that he has his OWN PHONE.

Even if the texts were to the sister/ex to show to him, ("tell XXX I'm gonna kick his ass"), if he doesn't have a cell, I bet he has a landline.
I've seen *homeless* people with phones.
To add, the pay phone nonsense came from someone other than the OP. In other words, wild assed speculation from a luddite who projected his own life into the story and ignored what the OP said about texting.

I had a near situation like that. Leo told me the court is gonna hear domestic violence where one family member shot another in an argument.
Tough place to be in when walking away before it got like that would have served everyone better.

Having a ccw doesn't give me an advantage to argue.

I will try to answer some questions, he did have a cell phone. I have known him about 6 years and in that time he has had no run ins with LE. He is in a supervisory position at his job of 10 years and can pass a background check to buy a gun. The guy he shot is in stable condition and I expect a civil suit to follow soon. I will keep everyone up to date as I can.

Thanks for update.

Does IN have a law that protects the shooter from civil suit if justified?
(may have been mentioned in the thread, didn't go back and read it all again)

Just googling around I can't find anything in the news about charges being filed. Suspect was released from jail on the 20th of July with no formal charges being filed. Can't find anything after that.

Link to article.

Looking at the OP's post history, we've got like 1 post in the last 9 months (I think). He may have left the building.
