Crocodile Thought to be Plastic Prop Attacks Man Snapping Selfie With It

November 29, 2021

By Tim Binnall

A man in the Philippines was nearly killed when he posed for a selfie alongside what he thought was a crocodile statue, but it turned out that the creature was real and it promptly attacked him! The bizarre incident reportedly occurred earlier this month as Nehemias Chipada was celebrating his 68th birthday at the Amaya View amusement park in the city of Cagayan de Oro. Alas, the merriment of the afternoon was shattered when the man noticed what he believed to be a remarkably realistic crocodile prop sitting in a small pool of water below a pathway on which he stood. No doubt hoping to commemorate his birthday with an amusing memory from the trip, Chipada clambered down to the creature for what wound up being an ill-advised snapshot.

Standing alongside the suspected statue, the man raised his arm for a selfie when the 'artwork' suddenly came to life and, much to the horror of onlookers watching the scene unfold, bit down upon Chipada's arm. The very real 12-foot-long crocodile then tried to drag him beneath the water, but the stunned tourist was able to extract himself from the animal's menacing maw and managed to scramble out of the pool to safety. Chipada was left with a bloody arm requiring medical attention and is currently recovering from the shocking birthday party gone wildly awry. While the man's family angrily blamed the theme park for the crocodile confusion, Amaya View fired back by noting that the area of the attack features several signs warning visitors about the dangerous animals.

I sprayed a good mouthful of my precious coffee over the keyboard when reading that.

I just LOVE it when some klutz provides the rest of us with some third-party f*ck-up merriment.

I can see it now - 'WARNING!! DANGEROUS WILD CROCODILES ROAM AROUND HERE WITHOUT CAGES OR ANY KIND OF RESTRICTIONS! THIS IS THEIR LAND! ENTER AT OWN RISK! DO NOT PET THE ALLIGATORS!'

As with any large reptile, alligators and crocs spend a lot of their time looking like dummies, but in the end, the only dummy is the guy who thinks that because they are not moving, they are life-like fakes.

Sheesh.

A couple of years ago we were wintering in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. We took a road trip to Puerto Vallarta. While walking the harbor we notice a small crowd of gringos starring at a fake crocodile. Guess what, it was real.

Interesting that someone's taken over Art Bell's Coast to Coast.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
