Looks like they were just trying to find a way to punish her, and they found it. While she bears responsibility for this incident, what really needed to happen, didn't happen, and that's to paddle that little bastard's ass until he couldn't sit down for a month.
Yes, momma is shit and has no business raising any child, but something is off with her sentence. Weed didn't cause this; an ignorant woman who has no idea what to teach a child caused this, and she would be that, with or without marijuana.
This line jumped out at me as to where the real problem is; it ain’t weed- the bitch is crazy.
“Taylor previously fired the gun in public, prosecutors wrote. She shot at her son's father in December after seeing him with his girlfriend.”

“Taylor’s attorney, James Ellenson, has previously told WTKR that the boy’s mother was suffering from mental health issues following an ectopic pregnancy and a miscarriage.” Link
No, the weed didn’t cause her 6 year son to steal her gun and shoot his teacher. I can’t fault the prosecutor for enforcing the existing laws.

It is tiring to see mental health issues listed as an excuse. It gives mental health a bad name. Did her attorney attempt to use that as a defense? It boils down to taking responsibility for your actions.

You think the mother who raises a 6 year old that shoots his teacher doesn’t have mental health issues? I don’t care if it was weed or not, mental health issues or not. She’s locked up and hopefully this ends her association with firearms. She has no sense of responsibility, but at least she’s being held accountable.
I’m tired of hearing about the warning signs that were missed/ignored. I also hope the kid winds up with a better life.

You can see what this kid was being exposed to. Instead of prison, what mama needed was to have her children taken from her, permanently.
quote:
Moments after the shooting, according to search warrants filed in the case, the child told a reading specialist who restrained him: "I shot that (expletive) dead," and "I got my mom’s gun last night."

^^^^^^^^^ That is correct. She is guilty of CRIMINAL behavior. THere is a difference. My point was that mental health should NEVER be an excuse for poor parenting. I am pretty certain that most criminals have "mental health issues" In most regions we still rely upon the Mcnaugton rule. BTW she went to prison NOT a psychiatric facility.

I couldn't read the Fox article but this is a local news event here. That POS failed 8 drugs tests after she was arrested and before this trial. She tested positive for both weed and cocaine. I think she got off pretty light.

Para, our local news rag says she was convicted in federal court by the judge of (1) being an unlawful user of marijuana in possession of a firearm, as well as (2) lying on a federal background check form when she bought the gun. Her charges for child neglect and endangerment will be tried in local courts sometime soon, not in federal court like the charges above.
