Do No Harm, Do Know Harm |
My work computer has one 15" monitor. It's laughable. And our tech department will not order new or larger screens, and their director has told my bosses that nobody needs two computer screens. ![]() All that aside, I need to buy another computer monitor to effectively do my work. I'd like something wide-ish, but I'm not trying to spend a fortune right after Christmas. Something in the $100-$150 range. I just left Amazon and the options were endless, and every good review had a bad review to cancel it out. I went by Goodwill earlier, and strolled though Wal-Mart (what a circus that was). No help. So I come to the great, all-knowing SIGforum. Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here. Can I Karma one to you? I believe it is at least 15", but can't check until tomorrow. Just let me know. _________________________________________________ "Once abolish the God, and the Government becomes the God." --- G.K. Chesterton

I'm not one to say no to free, but I think I want something in the 22-24" range, based on what I have at home and had in my old department. I have our IT guy buy most everything from Microcenter. They have everything a have great prices. This Dell 24" monitor is a great deal. All of our laptops use multiple monit.ors when in the office. These are what we use. Great size also. I think anything bigger would be a distraction. Buy online or local if store available close to your location. Either way is good to go. I'm a fan of ASUS HDMI monitors but don't have experience with a wide range of monitors. Mine is the 21.5" ASUS HDMI, used for a couple of years now and can find no fault whatsoever. Not only am I a fan of ASUS, but apparently they are "Amazon's Choice" monitors, as well as being well within your price range ... I find best prices on separate Amazon listings but haven't looked closely at the specs as to what might be best in your environment. 24" https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VE...eywords=asus+monitor 21.5" https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VS...=asus%2Bmonitor&th=1

Woke up today.. Great day! |
I purchased about 8 of those Dell monitors for computer upgrades at my business. I paid $129 for them and consider them an excellent value for basic use.

Just an observation but the Dell monitor looks quite similar in style to my Asus but may be spec'd differently. One consideration you didn't mention is if you require speakers in the monitor or not. Some have 'em and some don't. Even if you don't need them and chose a monitor that has them, it should be easy enough to disable monitor speakers through the monitors option's menu.

I have and use with great pleasure a 27 " curved Samsung monitor, the S27E510. Amazon has a later version for $179. One particular saving (optional via a switch) feature is its ability to slightly dim the blue light color which is known to damage vision that occurs from long term exposure. It even does so with little consequential negative impact on photo colors. I got mine at Costco and they may still sell them. Mine is using an HDMI connection to my PC and it did not come with that cable. Amazon says it also will use Display Port. https://www.amazon.com/Samsung...-1&keywords=s27e510c

I've had a couple of these previously, and they're very good for not a lot of coin. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-R2...ativeASIN=B0148NNKTC Just make sure you're good with it sitting on your desk (as opposed to mounting to the wall or an extention arm) given it has no VESA mount. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. How big is your work station? Could you fit a 32" smart t.v. on it?

I think that would be too much. 22-27" is probably my limit, keeping the other monitor on the side as a second. Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here. My standard where I work is the ViewSonic VG2739 27" monitor. If I was relegated to one 15" monitor, I think I'd look for a new job or another line of work. Anyway, you can buy any of the name brand and they should all work fine. I've always preferred HP, but the last few years I've used Dell and Lenovo too, no issues with any of them. Just make sure it has the right cable/adapter connection you need, as some models may not have options. I get everything from Amazon now, but I used to do all of my technology shopping years ago at Newegg.

probably a good thing I don't have a cut |
We just got duel 24" monitors at work and it's awesome. They also got rid of our PC's and replaced them with docked laptops. So if I keep the laptop screen open, I have three screens to work on.

A couple years ago when I told my 22-something son that I was looking at dual monitors, he laughed. His comment was that is so 1990, why don’t you look at the ultra wide monitor? I did, and ended up with an LG 34 inch wide monitor for less than the price of two decent 16 to 20 inch side-by-side‘s. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02
