Took your suggestion and got him with a sticky pad.

He had eaten three spring traps clean of peanut butter.

Btw,
Tried to free him into the field out back,
But that's not an option ,
Once they are in the glue, that's it that's all.
They are done for. Period.

Will wait a week to see if more are around.

Thanks to those choosing to contribute.

are you putting the peanut butter directly on the trigger?

if so, stop,

get a cotton ball, rub the peanut butter in teh cotton ball and use a tread, bread tie, or fine wire to attach the cotton ball to the trigger,

the little bastards will have to pull or chew in the cotton ball to get the peanut butter, and will set the trap off,

On the wooden traps, bend the trigger wire in the middle a little which will shorten it. This will cause the bait paddle to raise up higher (45 DEGREES VS HORIZONTAL)when set and also more sensitive....HAIR TRIGGER. Big Grin

I occasionally get mice at home, but it's regular war up "at camp". I use a few different type traps, but have the best results with the black jaw type.

I use cheese, with peanut butter on that. Cheese because it's traditional. Wink But it also makes cleaning the traps easier, the cheese pops out, rather than having to scrape the peanut butter out of them when I leave. Tootsie Roll can work well too. Chew it up and and get it mushy, then put a small piece in the trap. My record on "mice" is seventeen in a week. (shudder) (field mice, deer mice and voles)

Rats on the other hand, those things will make you nuts trying to catch them.
