Needs a check up from the neck up |
My daughter has a RICO glove that I had custom made for her. It is starting to get floppy due to 3 years of baseballs and softballs being drilled into it, is there a good way to stiffen the leather back to something normal?? Also, there is a Nokona catcher's glove I bought her about 4 years ago. It is impossible to break in. just hard as hell. I have oiled it, used it for a few years and it is only mildly better than when we got it. I have used this myself for months to try and break it in and we are getting no where. I don't want to abandon it but I am out of options and willing to be drastic. I have soaked it in steamy shower, put a ball in it wrapped in a towel and run it over a few dozen times with my escalade. this thing it tough and I need it running asap. My understanding, you can't 're-stiffen' leather, remember it was the skin of an animal.
Catcher's gloves...ugg. Have you tried applying a leather oil of come sort, I had a friend who used Mink Oil to help soften up his gloves, I used shaving cream , other's would dunk it in a full bucket of water, let the leather soak and then catch with it daily....soaking your glove ends up drying out the leather

The way I break in a new glove is to soak it in warm water for several hours to let it get totally saturated. Then take a bat,a ball, a rubber mallet and pound/work the leather forming your pocket. Put a ball in the pocket and wrap it tightly with string, a towel or whatever. Let it all dry for several days and then get a can of barbasol or other old school shaving cream with lanolin. Apply that heavy and work it into the leather. This method always worked well for breaking in fielders gloves. I've collected good USA gloves for years and here are a few. this was my playing days glove ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog
