I was just at the Buc-ee's in South Georgia last month and hurriedly snapped a photo of the bronze beaver. Well, the beaver has a little extra something. ____________________________ Eeewwww, don't touch it! Here, poke at it with this stick.

Not any time soon. They're growing from a Texas only gas station & c-store. Their business model is polite employees, dozens of gas pumps, clean c-store, clean restroom, more food variety than other c-stores, and a gift shop. My concern is they're growing so fast. I hope they're not taking on unsustainable debt and hope they can maintain their business model at this growth rate. Not really from Vienna |
My wife loved Buc-ee’s. As a curmudgeon, I could take or leave it. We’d stop there when she was traveling with me. The BBQ sandwiches were a step (or two) above typical gas station deep-fried corn dogs and beef and bean burritos. The stores were crowded but the restrooms always were way cleaner than any other gas station convenience store. The employees were generally clean and polite. I hope Buc-ee’s can maintain their high standards and be successful for many years.

My only experience was in south Mississippi along I-10. Best bathrooms ever. One just opened here in Colorado just south of Fort Collins. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

Have been in one once, so obviously impression needs a grain of salt, but I was exceptionally disappointed with the brisket sandwich I got there (recent store in SC), completely inedible, fat, gristle, and disgusting sauce. Lots of other options to potentially try, but given the hype around their brisket, I won’t be going out of my way to go back, nor waiting in any kind of line for one.

Yep, I, too, was on the lookout for Stuckey’s on trips. I remember Howard Johnson’s, but they were local, so I wasn’t looking out for them on trips. As for Buc-ee’s, my family and I are big fans, and we will continue to stop there until its eventual downfall. To me, it represents Texas and the US, or the US as it once was, sadly. Savor the limelight |
The fuel prices are good, the bathrooms are clean, they are spaced out pretty well on I-75 from GA to KY unless you drive an EV. However, there had to be a dozen Tesla Superchargers at the ones we stopped at. I noticed they had large bags of ice for $1.99 when we walked in. When we checked out, I said I’d take two large bags of ice. She said they were 20lb bags. I said really? Better make it three then. Then I said two would be fine. Two bucks for a 20lb bag if ice is a steal. We had no trouble getting in and out of the ones we stopped at on a Friday and Saturday. I’ve tried the brisket sandwich three time and it’s just not that good. I’m going to try the pulled pork next. The Italian sandwich is OK. I’m sure I’ll find a goto meal at some point. I don’t remember Stuckey’s at all.

Last Stuckey’s I remember was on Tylersville @ I75 ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

I think the ownership between the two is much different. Wasn’t Stuckeys like a franchise? Bucee’s is privately owned and they do not seem to be struggling at all. They pay well and I never see them when they are not busy.

Loved Pecan Logs until I had the flu (assumption) shortly after eating one and had it revisit me. Don't think I'd be able to try one again. Happened about 1968. Same thing with Hot Pockets in 1992 or so. The thought of either one starts triggering my gag reflex.

They are my preferred stop when with the wife and kid. The clean bathrooms are worth it just alone, especially when you are traveling with a wife and small child. Loves and Flying J bathroom are absolutely filthy, they smell like piss because there's piss all over the ground. The bathrooms are poorly maintained at Loves and Flying J and it's outright depressing going in there. They have dozens of pumps so when people do the inevitable of pumping gas and leaving their car when they walk into the store, there's still plenty of pumps. Their food is okay but they offer a wider variety than getting some fast food. _____________

Happiness is Vectored Thrust |
Stopped at a Buc-ee's on a trip back in December. It was very nice. As others have said, the bathrooms were incredibly clean. Got a breakfast biscuit which was better than the fast food counterpart, and of course had to try some of the jerky (good but not the best ever). Still, if it was on the way I'd stop again but wouldn't make a special trip to go to one. Stuckey's was a mainstay in the travels of my youth (mom was a big fan of the pecan roll). It was a nice place to stretch your legs on the trip from FL to upper KY. Stangely, the last time I made use of a Stuckey's was using it as a backup landmark for students fying low-level tactical profiles as part of the their Advance Strike training in Meridian MS. There was one on/near I-20 and that blue roof was a good point of reference for the students to let them know they'd missed the turn waypoint a few mile back. Icarus flew too close to the sun, but at least he flew.

They sure hate trucks. My son and I stopped in driving a bobtail semi. 27ft OAL. They promptly came out and ran us off. Meantime, the guy parked next to us in a F350, 28 ft gooseneck trailer, and bumper towed boat behind the trailer was perfectly acceptable to Buc-ees. Companies do not seem to realize that when you’re a dick to me when I’m in the truck, that influences my preferences when I’m not. Just ask KMart. Demand not that events should happen as you wish; but wish them to happen as they do happen, and you will go on well. -Epictetus

They have that policy to keep from having a truck stop that keeps non semi driving people away, they want it more family friendly. There are already truck stops made for those with your vocation.

The trucker market isn't what they're after. I guess they don't want trucks parked overnight in their lots and truckers hanging around 10 hours. Plus it also brings the other things associated with truckers that aren't good such as lot lizards. If I stop overnight, I try to make it a night at Buc-ee's. The one in Robertsdale, AL is one I have spent a few nights at. Well traveled and safe to park for a few hours of a nap. _____________

I thought Buc-ees was a truck stop. Overnight parking for trucks is a disaster nationwide. Every on and off ramp to highways are packed with trucks at night, because truck stops are full. Near me three people were killed in just a few months because of overcrowding, the Gov. said he would address that and then closed more truck stops. And yes, most truck stops are disgusting. Glad I retired.

Allowing a bobtailed truck to stop for an hour and shop is a far cry from becoming a truck stop full of hookers and piss bottles. Demand not that events should happen as you wish; but wish them to happen as they do happen, and you will go on well. -Epictetus
