Smart move to replace now or would you guys hold off longer?

Thanks

Honda recommends timing belt every 7yrs or 105K miles. Unless you tow on a regular basis then its every 5/60.

From the way it was explained to me, they have to take the spark plugs out to inspect/adjust the valves anyway. So the labor on the spark plugs is free/included. And it's the same price to just inspect the valves as it is to adjust the valves. So might as well have them adjust as needed while they're in there inspecting, and replace the spark plugs while they already have them out for the valves.

By comparison, the other dealerships/shops wanted $250-$380 for the spark plugs, and another $320-$390 for the valve clearance inspection/adjustment. Compared to $550 for both.

$2100 total, which was $200-$400 cheaper than the other dealerships/garages.

I paid about the same for the 105k service on my Subaru Outback except I also bought a battery. My guy is an independent shop and usually undercuts the stealership by a good 25%.

One of the biggest PIA things I've done on a car was the timing belt on my 2000 Integra. What a PIA. Replacing valves and piston rings were easier than that freaking timing belt on that car.

my 2011 pilot was due for an oil change and went Friday. had 95K on it. when I went to pay the service advisor went over ticket as usual and advised on some up coming mileage maintenance items along with prices.

the oil change with tax is $39 and change. but, as i did this time, i usually have a $5 off mailer coupon.

timing belt, water pump, drive belts and tensioner....$1100 (did not recommend cam or crankshaft seals unless they show signs of leaking)
spark plugs...$400

transmission service...$89.95 (i did have them do the tranny/diff service 2yrs ago and prices haven't changed.)

rear diff and transfer case service (its a 4WD model)...$99.95

I failed to ask if that was just spark plugs or plugs and valve adjustment/check, as the wife called in the middle of all this and broke the chain of though. if just plugs that's insane. takes about 30min - 1 hour labor and plugs are $60-$100. I have changed plugs on an Odyssey that we have and its the same basic plug setup.

now if that includes plugs, valve cover gaskets, intake manifold gaskets and labor to check/adjust valves then I can justify the $400. I also did the valve cover gaskets on the Odyssey and it does require the manifold to be pulled along with a shit load of plumbing, wiring and the air intake assy.

so those prices are spot on.

I ended up needing an engine mount replaced as well. Another $150, but at least the labor was included with the rest of it.
