Between an astronomical high tide and storm surge, a local "landmark" has been lifted off it's pilings and dumped in the harbor.

Years ago, it was "The Donut Hole". Sold the nastiest donuts on the planet. Everyone said they were fried in bear grease.

Prior to that, I suspect it was a lobsterman's bait shed.

In more recent years, someone spent a crapload of money converting it to a Summer residence. Rumor has it that no one would insure it. If so, the owner is royally screwed.

At one point I was looking for a cabin in a particular area. Looked at one.
Both my realtor friend and I looked at each other and said, nah I don't think so. Kept Looking and about a year latter saw another listing. As it turned out it was in the same area. But sat on a high bluff. Probably 80' above the other one. High and dry. Bought it and been very happy since. When I look out the back and see the other cabin down in the hole I "thank God" I did not opt for that one.
About every 10 years the water's rise up and flood the bottom where that cabin is. Or at least seriously threaten it.

Floods are no joke. Kind of like forest fires.

Storm surges are dangerous, be careful driving through that water, you never know if the roads gone under it.

Absolutely. Built on top of an old wharf on pilings. Amazed it hasn't been washed away sooner.

I'm told there's at least three wharfs washed away in another harbor near me, and multiple lobster boats dragging their moorings. Insurance companies gonna be busy...

This storm did me a big favor!
Several years ago we got a heavy wet snowfall in early spring.

I have a big white birch tree out in the center of the circular driveway loop.
Five tall branches in that tree got bent over and snapped, but remained attached in the top of the tree.

I called around to see if any of my buddies had access to a bucket truck, but nothing was available.

I briefly though about buying a decently sized grappling hook and pulling them down with the Kubota.
But reality intervened and I realized eventually they would tear loose and fall on the ground.
There is nothing near the birch tree that could get damaged, so I waited patiently.

At least two of the snapped branches fell down from the high winds yesterday and now I have a yard cleanup project.

Very windy here today. Right now it is high tide but I don't expect the Bay to come up enough to reach my house. It has to rise about 3' more to do that. A lot of flooding here, some of my students missed school as the buses won't go near them to pick them up.

Snow storm here recently in no. West Illinois.

8 inches in 13 hours of very wet crap.

I don't mind blowing out the driveway at all.

But I am pretty close to putting out DETOUR signs for the snow plows and road graders.
