Shut down their server farms and see what the fuck happens? Turn their stock value to zero and see what the fuck happens? Shut down their search engine and see what the fuck happens? Shut down GMail and see what the fuck happens? Shut down Adnroid and see what the fuck happens? I really don't think you've thought this all the way through

Whoa, relax.

If Google goes away, other companies fill the void. We don't actually need Google.

You're right, but explain to me if Google dies in the next minute how that will work out for you. Short answer is it will suck in both your pocket book and you browsing experience. I'm far from a Google lover but shutting Google down today would not be a happy moment. Folks need to think about what they're asking for.

I don't see anyone saying they want Google to disappear "the next minute". I don't think even stickman428 meant that, although you seem to interpret him that way. So, chill out. Wink

I lived most of my life without Google, internet, or smart phone. Seriously. I spent the majority of today without my phone. I'm online now because I'm relaxing after working all day. You guys are great but if I didn't have internet I'd be reading a book. There is nothing Google has that I can't live without or replace.

You may not have a choice with your car - the manufacturers are already building in data collection capabilities because they see a financial windfall selling that information.

Not in my car, which BTW is a 1986 Olds Cutlass Supreme. Point being that there are plenty of older cars available for those wanting some privacy.

As For Google, IMO they should be subject the the same Anti Trust laws that led to the breaking up of Standard Oil.

I've stopped counting.

Of course older cars don't have data collection.
If you buy/lease/rent a new car you'll be targeted.
I don't want to be a data source, but I'm not going to drive a thirty year-old car.

It might affect my pocketbook, if we have any stock in Alphabet. I'm not sure. Why would it impact my browsing experience? I don't use the Google search engine. Haven't for a couple years or more.

In fact, as I noted: I use Alphabet/Google, these days, for very, very little. Same with Microsoft.

Your're right. A very large company be broken up wouldn't affect your stock holdings or even your portfolio. Good thing you don't own them because there is no way in hell that Google going down would affect you.

Googles practiced only benefit Google, at the peril of individual privacy. Most of the people using its products and services are ignorant of the insidiousness of Google and Alphabet. Google is not a necessity.

Or find the transmitter and use a pair of flat dykes...if it is through the plug used for diagnostics then buy a hack.

Except for phones, locked down as well as possible we have no smart devices....even the TVs are turned dumb.

If people want this let them buy it.....and they will, in droves..

Though I'm sure he can speak for himself, it seems to me he was referring to the fact that your last two sentences were completely contradictory to your true feelings on the subject, and seemed designed to be a "screw you" to the thread in general.

Won't affect my browsing experience. I use Firefox and ixquick. No google needed or wanted.
I would have to come up with something other than gmail for traveling, or finally get around to setting up a vpn and poking a hole in the firewall to allow access to my home mailserver, but I should probably do that and ditch gmail anyway...

Really? Something you probably weren't thinking about, and can't avoid. Not Google, but that's not really relevant.

License plate data not just for cops: Private companies are tracking your car

AND the government will never break up Google. They'll want to use Google's data for their own purposes

If you think our privacy is compromised now, just wait. Until there's some legislation passed to protect our privacy, there's no stopping companies such as Google and Facebook from learning everything about what we do and who we are and selling the information to advertisers, insurance companies, and eventually, any entity that will pay. After all, that's their business model.

Google's stated aim is to collect all data on all persons in all situations, globally.

Google apologized a few years ago when it was learned that their location cars (the ones that take pictures of your street, for google earth) wee also scanning computers and signals as they moved down streets, and capturing any data they could. Then they kept doing it.

While flying out of Winnemucca some years ago, I watched, and photographed teams of former marines launching what appeared to be weather balloons. They were internet transmitters/receivers, by google, and they're in use all over the world. In theory they provide high altitude, airborne, wide area internet availability; but they also record anything that passes through them. There's a price for convenience.

If you use google, your data is recorded by google. Whether it's a google site, search engine, or device or service. If you use google email, or anything owned by google, then your data is recorded and it's tied directly to you. If you use a convenience device in your home that allows you to get information, that's recorded too, and not just your questions, but the area mic, which is often on all the time.

In my home, we do not use cameras for security, or on our devices. My laptop camera is taped over right now as are phones and other devices. I don't use google email or search engines. I don't do facebook or any of the other such sites. In fact, I don't do any social media, including "tweets." Household appliances don't go online, or send or receive data, in our home. Neither do our vehicles.

If you've got cameras inside your home that allow you to keep an eye on the place while you're away, you're not the only one who can see this. It also means you're not the only one who can watch any other time, too. This includes the little doorbell cameras.

Google is not the only one recording this information.
