No longer tempted by Google Pixel 7 Pro…staying Apple Login/Join

Having a perfectly good Apple iPhone 11 Pro, I am tempted by the Google Pixel 7 Pro. I had the Pixel 2. I liked it. I liked my Chromebook. I like most everything about the Google universe, except for the obvious monetizing of my personhood.

Anyway, can anyone share personal experience with the Pixel 7 Pro? I really enjoy photography, and the camera seems superior.

I am ONLY interested if someone essentially gives me a Pixel 7 Pro for free. This is the current temptation -- trade in the iPhone for the Pixel 7.

It is a serious ecoverse change. Having done it once, and still finding the Google apps superior to the Apple equivalents, I am fully aware of the issues and benefits.

I have one. I've had it for two days, which is how long they've been available to the general public. I have been an Android user for about 12 years and a Google device user back to the Galaxy Nexus. The camera on the Pixel 7 Pro is essentially identical to the 6 Pro. Most of the magic on Pixel device photography is on the software side.

System software wise, it appears stable. That is almost universally the case on Pixel devices (and should be).

I hate to say "read and watch some reviews" but as far as what the photographic capabilities and limitations are, that's probably the answer on the 7 Pro right now.

I appreciate your early insights. I stopped by Verizon and saw one. Looks like the camera bar would be an easy spot to damage. There was a Spigen case with a wallet for two credit cards that protected it, but then wireless charging wouldn’t work. Reading reviews for sure. I’m also putting the Google apps on my iPhone to see if I would rather use them than the typically unaccepted Apple software. I also took off my Apple watch and returned to the Garmin Venu to evaluate if I could live without that device.

If it were free, meaning Verizon would simply transfer me to the Pixel 7 Pro, I may have to do this. I can’t see paying $40 for 30 months for another phone, such as a iPhone 14 Pro.

This has not been my experience, and if you do a web search, the issues I have had are common. My Pixel 3 has a tendency to go into an endless shutdown/reboot cycles. It also has been prone to make repetitive emergency calls to 911. It's very embarrassing. Despite that, I'm on my second Pixel 3. I still like the phone, the Android platform, and especially the camera. I purchased my second brand new on eBay for $130 and it also had the reboot issue, although only once.

I'd be tempted at the current models if only they'd stop getting bigger. I may still get one when the 6 and 7 models are a couple years old and I can get them much cheaper.

I have an older Pixel 3 that is rock solid. When it comes time to replace I will probably go the Apple route. I really like the Google hardware, long battery life / fast charging. My main complaint is the Android OS. I have to do a lot of tweaking to it. Also updates settings that are a PIA to reset. The UI autorotate is one or many.

I use my phone for calling, small amount of texting, and photos. I do use the browser when I'm doing something like sitting in a waiting room. Pretty basic stuff.

current Pixel 3XL user that is planning on updating to a 7 pro this week,

my 3XL is still going strong, but I have had to reboot it more that I have in the past, to get some apps (waze for example) to work correctly,

I was going to upgrade to a 6 pro a couple months ago but due to Verizon being a pain in the ass sometimes, switching to a business account, and the new one available this soon, I held off

Been using the 7 pro since Friday. The camera is significantly improved over the 6. Look for the almost universal very positive reviews. Much better photography than the 6 pro. I think this is the first Pixel in a long while that has garnered excellent reviews.

So far it's been very stable and cameras, especially zooms are great.

Will go Apple 14 Pro Max. Thanks for help.

My Verizon factory store offered me the same $ trade in for my Apple 11 Pro Max for either phone. With that, and the better build and image quality, as well as remaining in the same ecosystem, it is an easy decision.
