Gronk retirement
I felt a strong gust of wind yesterday when Gronk announced his retirement.

I suspect it was because all of the Pats haters breathed a big sigh of relief at the same time.

He will be missed. :-(

Certainly a sigh of relief but the rest of it is a sucking sound of Pats fans wondering who Bradey will throw to when Edlemann is double covered.

Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed.
Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists.
Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

WEEI has been discussing this for weeks. He was still working out locally and some think his body just needs time off.

He was fun to watch.

The greatness of Rob Gronkowski, and what's next for the Patriots

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/...kowski-next-patriots

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

He seems to be pursuing an entertainment career, evidently. He started on Entourage back in 2015 and has been in a couple of movies.

I just wish he had played at least 3 years at UofA; he played two and was gone.

Gronk is notorious for saving his money. Smart guy behind all the partying. I'm sure 9 years is plenty for him to retire on.

I know this is terribly inappropriate, but I heard the voice of Alex Karras as Mongo when I read your post above. Big Grin

Yup. The goofy act is just an act. He’s a very savvy money guy and mentors other players regarding their financial affair. His intimate knowledge of the Patriots playbook goes above and beyond other players in the league. Many gifted athletes have problems coming to New England and figuring out the system. Gronk is also extremely generous with his support for first responders and childrens charities.

Guys are already betting that this retirement is really a one year sabbatical.

Yup, he allegedly has lived large on just his endorsements and banked every single game check, for 9 years. His momma didn't raise no dummy.

"The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with." -Douglas Adams

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all. -Mencken

I don't much care about pro football, but if it's true, good for him. Nothing wrong with making money and avoiding CTE.

Not a Pats fan and much less of an NFL fan as of late. That aside, Gronk was a fantastic tight end and a class act. He will be hard to replace.

Excellent guess, but this one goes back even further to a 1960s TV series- It's About Time

He seems to be a decent human being. The NFL should find more like him. I mean, just decent human beings.

Arc.
