Just haven't heard much from him recently. He was not at the press conference re Venezuela. Rubio and Hegseth were there but not Vance.

Nothing against JD Vance, but he’s VP and probably not a decision maker. Informed and ready to step in, yes, but a bystander none the less as far as Venezuela is concerned.

It would be nice to have a solid idea of not only his political philosophy, but also his initiative/decisiveness well before the 2028 Presidential nomination. It would truly be a shame should PDJT be followed by a well-thinking but do little play-it-safe POTUS.

I agree... and that should all be flushed out during the primary starting in early 2027. It's a long road to the White House, but he does have the inside track.

The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown

It would be nice but the more you know about him now, the more the Democrats would also know and have time to formulate a strategy against him.
Let me ask you: with what you know about the Democrat Party now, is there anyone they could conceivably choose as their presidential candidate that will make you choose their candidate over Vance?
Are you on the fence regarding Vance? I say if there are people who want to contest Vance, their opposition research on him will inform you soon enough.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I'll look for it, but I read an article that mentioned Vance's absence while Trump and Rubio were in Fl was a security decision related to succession. It said that Vance was involved.

^^^^ That was my thought, also. There was no reason for Vance to be around, should “something” were to happen.

I generally feel that transparency is beneficial, even if it exposes weakness.

No, I expect the same tired unqualified candidates to fight it out among themselves. The D party seems to have devolved into a bunch of staid long-timers who have few new ideas or options. As it stand right now, I would expect Bernie Sanders to have to most well-organized and vehement followers, but fall yet again to the powers that be in the D "leadership".

I am not at all sure that he would be my favored candidate, not that he is a bad choice, but I'd question that he has wide-spread appeal. There is enough TDS out there that some of it will adhere to him. OTOH, I am old enough to remember how reviled Nixon was by many as DDE's VP, yet he eventually won the Presidency.
There is also another huge factor in play. This is that many women will vote for a woman no matter what their political stance. IMHO, this is why Kumswallah got as many votes as she did. The RNC would greatly increase their chances of winning by identifying a qualified female candidate early on, and fully-supporting her candidacy. As for me, I don't know enough yet about any potential viable candidate to have a horse in the race.
Is it too early yet for a general 2028 election thread?

The Democrats are incapable of running a candidate I would vote for.
I’m not saying he personally is not a decision maker, I’m saying the role of Vice President is not one of a decision maker. In terms of Venezuela, Trump has a Secretary of State and a Secretary of War to advise him and carry out his wishes and these are the people I would expect to be at press conferences about Venezuela, not the VP.

Yes... it is too early. Let's focus on the 2026 midterms.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I think it is very wise to keep his mouth shut. The VP role is to support the President. Listen to him and reading his book should be sufficient.Just look at Musk and what happened. The John Nance Garner quote about the VP position not worth a bucket of warm piss still applies.

Trump and Vance decided that with the number of threats against them that it wasn't a great idea for them to travel and be at the same event so this is why they've split up.
Having 1 and 2 in the same sight picture isn't smart right now, so keep them apart
doesn't mean he's not engaged in the issues

This is pretty standard for VP’s to stay quiet. They go to funerals and other events that the President doesn’t want to attend and probably advise behind the scenes.
