Yeah, that M14 video guy... |
Sorry if this is the wrong section. This discussion is open to all types of firearms. What firearm do you have that was relatively cheap that you completely dumped in lots of work and money to make something you probably could have bought as a package for cheaper? You know you've got one. A Savage, a 10/22, an 870, a Mossy 500, a Pawn shop score, a cheap 1911. Please post before and after pics. Pistols included. I've got a few. My Savage mid-1980's 110 in .270 probably tops the list. I spent 6 years rebuilding it. You could probably buy one for $150 at a pawn shop. Here's what I changed: McMillan stock- ~$650 Benchmark 5R 22" MTU profile barrel chambered in 308 with 1:11" twist.- ~$650 New Savage bolt- $150 NSS recoil lug and barrel nut- ~$70 Savage steel trigger guard- ~20 So basically, I poured about $1,500 (add $300 if you count the Atlas bipod, but it jumps from rifle to rifle) into a Savage precision rifle before glass. I love it! Groups before I rebuilt it were about 3" at 100, with a 6" POI shift between range trips. Groups after I rebuilt it are in the neighborhood of 0.5". The only original parts that remain are the receiver, trigger mechanism and the internal magazine. Before... After... I'll have to post my Rem 870 specifics later. Tony.
