I don't believe that was Lauer. I believe you're referring to/thinking of Bob Costas.

Oh. Yeah. Can't tell them apart.

I don't like either one.

That is the story I'm hearing, anyway. Judge for yourself.

These kinds of things get soooo complicated.... Roll Eyes

Maybe NBC wanted to get rid of him and his contract and this was their opportunity.

Based on my lifetime of government service, I’ll say you can misappropriate millions of dollars. If everyone loves you nothing happens. If you’re an azz’ole you can get termininated for walking into work :20 late.

Haven't watched The Today Show since 9/11 happened. Even back then, Lauer had a terrible reputation as a human being.

This is all a Great Spectator Sport. It's like the Twilight Zone episode when the aliens turn off the power on Maple St and watching the idiots go nuts.

Think back decades during the Obama, Bush, Clinton years and all of the bullshit we had to endure from these insufferable hacks. These are great times, karma is right on time.

Detailed complaint.
I hope it was more in line with credible evidence.

Slippery slope if all it takes is an accusation.

I agree.

But Matt has a contract, so they have to be pretty sure he did something to violate the terms of the contract to be able to fire him. An unfounded accusation and firing will just buy them a giant lawsuit. I feel sure they investigated, and confronted Lauer. He might have even confessed.

F-ing Matt Lauer - we had to fly him once near the end of a combat deployment - self entitled douche bag, no doubt.

It is disquieting to see the accusations accepted as fact without much in the way of corroboration. I’m sure many of the accusations are true, well founded, but eventually, and who can say that eventually hasn’t already happened, accusations will be made or greatly exaggerated out of the blue, to settle some other score, or by mentally deranged victims, or someone who wishes they were a victim.

We have seen such problems with acquaintence rape, not always resolved truthfully, accurately.

It is very troubling.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

That is a big concern. While i have no love for this dipshit. I certainly would not want him to loose his job over false accusations. That being said, I posted a couple of links. The first of which deals with him playing twiddley dinks with a peotential co-host.

Usually with confession is a negotiation of "quitting to spend more time with their family" as opposed to termination. This was clearly a termination.

I would. I'm tired of the double standards. The left has no problem ruining the lives of those on the right with their fake BS. Now they're eating what they've been serving up.

I'm not interested in putting the brakes on until it spreads outside of their ranks.

In the current which hunt climate, i doubt they would spend the political capital as it were to offer him a resignation.

I had one of those "learning" moments re the allegations against Bill Clinton. A coworker found no problem with Slick Willy's actions, stating "Clinton didn't do anything I wouldn't do if I had the chance".

In a purely commercial context, and especially where there is a contract, I am less troubled, because I do have faith that the contract and the possibility of expensive and dangerous litigation will keep the private parties in check.

In politics, I agree that the unfounded allegation can do great damage.

It is also a problem for at-will employees, who don't have the protection a contract provides someone like Lauer.

Anyone thinking along the “innocent until proven guilty” lines with this event can rest assured that whatever he was fired for is 100% substantiated; if it weren’t, you can bet he wouldn’t have quietly slunk away.

I LOVE watching the continued implosion of the left- it’s been like watching a building demolition in extreme slo-mo since the election.
