^^^ That reminds of something I’ve wondered about. Will FSD find a good spot at large parking lots? Then self park?

Why should an AI worry about a "good" parking spot? It will be more like a valet than driving yourself. Drop you at the door, then go on its merry way to whatever resting/recharging area you'll never know about, go get your lunch order, or pick up another fare.

Happy path miles is not the same as exception handling miles. Interesting stats would be exception handling related.

If it is dropping you off and picking you up, any opne spot is a good spot.

Supervised by Humans...So how many miles have Humans driven in the same time frame? By their own will...In Teslas? How about NOT in Teslas?
Are you saying that a single driver (Tesla AI) in a given period hasn't driven as far as ALL OTHER DRIVERS in that same period? shocking.

I'm ready for self-driving but self-driving is not ready for me.
Took my wifes Tesla Y to the plumbing supply store to get some parts. She had FSD free to try it for a month. Literally laughing my fool head off as it turned the blinker on, moved into the fast lane on the freeway to go around some slow car all on it's own. It was almost remarkably perfect the entire way there. Almost being a key word.
Totally in love until I got to the plumbing store. They had put in a curb on the main street where the driveway turn into the parking lot formerly was. They wanted customers to take a side street and had relocated the turn in there. The car didn't know it and I just missed driving my wifes new car into it when I grabbed the wheel with microseconds to spare as the cars FSD jerked to turn right into the curb.
She was in the car with me, and there's no way she's signing up for that kind of heart stopping manuvers. Of course, my brother, same car, didn't see the curb at the Home Depot, drove right into it and flattened 2 tires...so FSD would likely have been awesome for him in that instance. It's so close to being there. I'm looking forward to it.
(My real name's Bill. I was feeling paranoid when I signed up:-)

Not even close. One generation at most. And many of us will have the option on one type of new car or another.
I think for some time however that these technologies will be best on open roads more or less. I'd hate to depend on the technology in complex situations in heavy traffic and high speeds. In this environment as a supplemental safety technology, but not letting to of the wheel and reading a book.

NO, I'm saying that that the quoted 'miles driven' is kind of a bullshit number and not relevant unless you know the number of vehicles to compare it to. Though you refer to it as a 'single driver', it's been operational in some Unknown SHITTON of Teslas during that time frame, and maybe (likely?) not even the majority of Teslas on the road. Therefore it's NOT an apples-to-apples comparison to anything, let alone ANY single driver as you seem to have inferred in your previous post! Ultimately it's just a BIG number with 'almost' ZERO context properly evaluate it!

That makes me wonder about the cost of collision insurance for a FSD Tesla compared to a non-FSD car of similar price.

Part of the T&C of Tesla is that all of the miles driven, FSD, and human driver are recorded and used for training data for the AI. While it's "supervised" that amounts to fiddle dicking with steering wheel twice a minute. Unsupervised is invite only for privately owned cars and amounts to entirely hands free. But Waymo, Zoox are both doing completely empty driver seat rideshare.
There are lots of cars, and lots of drivers but only Tesla has the information to compile, and provide publicly.

^^ Here's a bit of context - There were 3.69 Trillion miles driven by U.S Drivers in 2025. That works out to 10.1 Billion miles per day!
Tesla's numbers for the 35 days work out to 5.2 Billion miles per year, or 0.14% of the total miles driven! So while those numbers from Tesla 'seem' really big, and are presumably intended to impress, I'm not really sure what we're supposed to glean from them. Regardless, at 0.14% of the miles driven in the U.S. annually, they're actually quite insignificant, like 'rounding error' insignificant! See what I mean...

This shit right here is why I’ll drive myself, thank you.

So lets presume 150 million drivers that's about 70 miles per driver per day. Teslas AI a single decision maker/driver is driving 14 million a day all on it's own.
so unless you are a member of a hivemind those other drivers experience is entirely inconsequential to any other given driver.
