I picked this up at an auction for a steal! It's practically in like new condition and looks like it was treated very well.

MAC Tools line Model 51-22-80 but actually made by Sanborn Manufacturing in Minnesota!

5HP, 2-stage, 230V, 1Ph, 175psi, 80 gallon

I can't wait to get it wired/plumbed up in the garage. I can finally use air tools for more than 10 seconds at a time!

The shop hasn't been built yet.

Once set up, you'll use the hell out of that!

I'm having trouble finding a manual for it. I'd like specifics about maintenance. The oil in the air filter on top looks brand new, but I want to check/change the oil in the pump. I can make some guesses about which are drain/fill plugs, but I'd like to RTFM first!

Planning on rebuilding its skid. It's a bit worse for the wear, plus they used nails. I'll make one with fresh 2x4s and screws.

It looked like a small mechanical shop was closing down. I keep an eye out for things like this – machine shops, mechanic shops, etc.

I'm trying to find an on/off switch to wire into this; what is everyone else using for 220V equipment? The 5HP motor draws 22Amps (according to the label on the motor) and is single phase. The 220V circuit in my garage is a 50Amp circuit (built to code! my house was finished in 2020). Most of the 220V switches I'm seeing aren't rated for more than 15-20 Amps. Should I be searching for a "disconnect" instead?

It would be nice if I could mount it to the compressor rather than the wall.

We had a couple big compressors like that at the factory. We ran them hard 8 hours a day. We anchored them into the concrete floor.

You will also need to drain the water out every so often from the condensation that builds up. We also had some sort of drying system installed.

Ours were the heart beat that ran the 10,000 sq foot factory.

Mine will only be on when using it. I do drain my current compressor, but it's pretty minimal out here in the high desert, thankfully!

That's awesome, and I'm very jealous. My 26 gallon Harbor Freight unit has done me fair for the past 15 years or so, but ever since I rewired the garage and have the option of 220, I've been lusting after a bigger compressor. That thing will do pretty much anything you ask of it and then some...I think you'll be very satisfied!

Gotta love a good compressor. You'll use it a lot.

Now build the shop around it.

I use my breaker as my off and on switch. The breaker is installed next to my compressor.

Unfortunately, not at the moment. A roughly 25x50 shop is in the planning phase. STILL.

I got a Miller 211; love it. The plasma cutter is on the list, still.

UPDATE:

I got it wired in through the starter box (on the left) and a 30 Amp, 2-pole switch installed. It runs very well!





I'd still like to change the oil and check the level, but it doesn't have a sight glass. One plug is labeled OIL that I'm guessing is the fill:



The front has these two; The square one on the left seems a bit high for a drain plug. Could it be a level check/weep hole similar to filling a truck differential? (fill until it starts to weep out). That would explain the larger size; it would allow one to see the level inside or insert a finger to check it. That would mean that the bolt on the right is the drain.



How do I check the level so I can properly fill and monitor it?
