YouTube recommended videos: We are SO doomed
I just downloaded and cranked up YouTube on my Xbox. No sign in, no search, just hit the icon and let it load.
All I did was scroll through the recommended videos and I actually feel dumber now.
People (meaning kids, our future) actually watch this stuff. On a regular basis.
At least the old Bugs Bunny & Elmer Fudd cartoons exposed me to classical opera along with gratuitous anvil violence.

Search for subjects you are interested in. I've been surprised at the breadth and depth of the material available on YT.

I have a login, and my recommended list pretty well fits me. There are always exceptions of course. I think YouTube throws in a wild card fairly regularly.
It had just been a long time since I saw a fresh, new recommended list.
There is a lot of good information on there, for sure. I had just forgotten about a lot of the inane tripe and what passes for entertainment.

A favorite of mine, too. I've had it bookmarked for years.

On the other hand, frequently I get suggested videos that are pretty damned offensive, such as one I got yesterday about incest. I've never searched for anything remotely like it, yet it showed up.

I guess I'm just not broad-minded enough for Google, which owns Youtube I think.

^^This. You just have to dig to find it, but there is a whole lotta good content out there.

One of my docs practically lives on YouTube. You can find and have decent content.

I know your pain, but I have watched my daughters use it to learn how to program software, learn French, play games better etc. It can be a deep and rich experience or it can be a complete waste.

I learned to stay away from videos of stupidity, and focus on the good and the constructive.

YouTube is an incredible and amazing resource to learn ANYTHING you want. From deep political and economic policy formation to guitar to repairing your gas fueled clothes drier. Listening to cordial and thoughtful debate from smart and informed people is wonderful.

So much better than the polemic Fox/FBN or any other “news” on cable, with 2 minute shallow overviews.

Same for the internet/YouTube.

I never buy a tool or electronic gadget without going to YouTube first. If you can think of it, there is a video about it. You do have to be aware that there is some junk advise in there but that's true anywhere. YouTube is a treasure trove of useful information and entertainment. It sure as hell beats going to the library and trying to find what you are looking for.
