A) A&M is not quite what it once was. The Greeks have changed it, dramatically, as has the business school. B) A&M’s endowment is “FU” money to Musk. I can understand why he’d rather do his own thing, than give other people input. C) It is a failure of A&M that it is, apparently, not meeting the needs of Tesla and SpaceX. D) He may be using this as part of a way to shelter some money from death tax for his kids. | |||

If you’re referring to A&M the answer is yes. As a matter of fact when I did my graduate degree there my research grant was in part funded by the largest grant ever received by a university (at the time) I believe it was for $8,000,000 to study the effect of hyper saline discharge of water into the Gulf of Mexico as part of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve project.
