snwghstHopefully did my little part to help an independent music venue today
Independent music venues are struggling and trying to figure out ways to keep the places from drowning and closing as they all survive on nightly shows and I know profit margins are thin
Much of the New Orleans culture is that music which permeated my soul in the 80’s when I visited the city the first time for a Radiators show at Tipitinas. I’ve now been a resident for about a decade. It’s a love-hate relationship and I’m happy I don’t live in the mayhem that is downtown but peacefully outside in the Bayou
Couple months ago, while we where in the beginning stages of the covid shutdown I noticed Tipitina’s offered a Lifetime membership, it wasn’t blasted everywhere, very subtly, and not mentioned again, I thought what?? I put the cost into a per show cost perspective and Would I ever break even. The answer to that is NEVER
Fast forward to this past weekend after the City has pulled back from opening more, future live shows months from now are “tentative at best” I saw the small blurb again...
I have become friends with many of the entrenched locals, touring musicians. Old and Newer generations. Artists I never imagined I’d be called on the phone to stop by their house for a BBQ and sit and drink with musicians my early adulthood listening was based in
Yesterday I decided it was more important for me to help one of my favorite venues survive than to think about a financial break even. Today I met with one of the Owners and the GM of Tipitina’s and have secured a Lifetime Membership, which includes a +1. I never buy another ticket, wait in line or worry about a sold out show or one I typically say that costs too much. Just walk up to the door, and walk in. Only exceptions are for benefits and fundraisers which I’m absolutely fine with. I’m 1 of 4. It for damn sure was not inexpensive but that’s OK. I’ve got 20+yrs to have fun
Support the live music as you can!!

Yes. A number of artists did the “drive in” experience around the country. From what I heard it was a great idea, but didn’t really work out, more because there are few drive ins left. Those that are, based on regional musical tastes, had a great night
Many are not doing the pay per view on YouTube, FB is now working on how to support Small artists who weekly do live shows. They are getting “tips” through PayPal and Venmo which cuts FB out of any revenue
