This, politely tell them the truth. I would caution about mentioning what you think about the company though because ....you never know, they may have your perfect position in the future. Often if they get enough similar responses they will share it with the customer. I do not ignore headhunters anymore and in fact have becone drinking buds with a couple as they are a wealth of knowledge on what is happening in the industry and gossip. I remember getting a call about a position in Tehran, the position was well outside my skillset....even then all I did was laugh and ask if they read my CV. I did get grumpy after I turned down a gig in the Congo. He asked why...."um...civil war, ebola, marlesburg..." Then he called my wife, and he knew us! I took the phone and less than politely asked him if there was no way in hell I would why in the fuck would my wife go. We laughed about years later

No need to compose anything at all. You’re one of hundreds on his list. Just tell him that you’re not interested and for the reasons that you’re not interested but ask him to stay in touch in the future for other opportunitues if that’s what you want him to do. Or don’t reply at all. If you think that he will remember you in two weeks as “the guy who didn’t reply” then you’re mistaken. Probably about 80%-90% of the people he contacts don’t reply....and he’s ok with that. That’s his world. 0:01

Why do you feel like you have to waste any time replying to this guy? You're just a name on a list to him.

Amazon is currently out of boxes of scorpions. They do, however, have indivdual scorpions at 16 bucks per. Seems like a ripoff if you ask me. ____________________________________________________ "I am your retribution." - Donald Trump, speech at CPAC, March 4, 2023

Yep. I sent an offer to a guy named, would you believe, "Lord Vaalic" once upon a time. To say I received a stinging response, would be an understatement... "the meaning of life, is to give life meaning" ✡ Ani Yehudi אני יהודי Le'olam lo shuv לעולם לא שוב!

I don't respond to solicitations from Headhunters. A few bad experiences were enough for me.

Was this unsolicited? Have you actually had any contact / conversations with them about the job? If so, had it come to the point of an offer. Does the recruiter work for the firm directly, as opposed to a separate headhunting firm? If the answer to all the above is no, I'd just ignore it. I've been out of IT for 3+ years now, and I still get emails from headhunting firms. These are bulk spam, and if you don't respond, they don't know or care. In point of fact, some of the reasons they do this is to get no responses, so they can justify bringing in H1Bs. If you have talked to the recruiter, and, especially, if it got to the point of an offer, then I'd have a polite conversation to the effect that on further consideration, you're happy with the position you're in, and happy where you live, and are not considering taking the position they're offering.

Too late. I sent a brief reply earlier today, basically saying thanks for the consideration, but I'm not actively looking for a career change at the moment, and that I would not entertain a relocation to that communist, earthquake-prone, over-regulated shithole. Okay, well, I didn't say that last part as it reads...but did pretty much say no relocation to California for me. “I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.”

Oh stewardess, I speak jive. |
I ignore 99% of them, too, but when I do engage with them at all my needs/requirements are polite but quite clear (from location to salary range to roles), and the good recruiters are smart to note those things in their systems, and once in a while I'll get contacted by one that has something which fits pretty much exactly because they already know what it'll take to sway me.

"Thanks for the offer, but no. I'd never move anywhere like California." To the point and he'd appreciate your truthfulness.
