Coins vs bills
I have a feeling the courts will sign off on the government creating money in whatever form it sees fit, as long as it distributes currency in some form.

The current system of currency is grossly impractical for the purposes of commerce, and I’m not sure that it meets the obligations under the USCON, unless it provides a practical means to buy houses, cars, land, etc.

I’ve been wondering about that. Is using dollar bills still ok at strip clubs or has it graduated to fivers?
And to the OP, get rid of pennies.

Well, that's all they can do in Canada. Actually, they tend to just throw the coins at her.

Loonies and Toonies. Seriously, did the people who came up with the term Toonies even give it a 2nd thought?

The day of the polymer coin with a verifiable element to defeat forging is coming. Lighter than metal coins, as thin as may be convenient, longer-lasting than paper bills, easier to work with for people with limited vision than paper dollars or digital transactions, and fulfills Constitutional requirements.

You heard it here first. Now I just have to invent and patent the technology.

Isn't there a law somewhere that says coins that do not have a significant content of precious metal cannot be called "money"? Of course, we've gotten away from that idea entirely--none of our current coins have precious metal content (unless you count the pennies--copper is so expensive now that it might be considered "precious").

Canada has the Loonies (1 CA$) and Toonies (2 CA$)--how are those faring? I don't think there are paper bills of those denominations. The Europeans have 1 and 2 Euro coins. I think we could have 1 and 2 Dollar coins, with some silver in them (silver is about $30/oz so it wouldn't take much to be worth $1 or $2).

I'm carrying a 1 oz pure silver coin in my pocket right now. I like te feel of it there.

^Article I. Section 10, and the 1792 coinage act?
The only "money" in my wallet is a 44 washington quarter. Even though current coins have no silver, they still have more intrinsic value than the federal promissory notes.

Been a while since I listened to this.

Well, I don't want to sound harsh, but I don't think having this as a part of your platform bodes well for your chances. But good luck.

Sorry, but the Germans have already beat you to it back in 2016.

Are you saying the Constitution requires metal coins and that paper money doesn't cut it?

What is your position here?

I recall German 5 DM coins were pretty common while over there in the early-mid 90’s and them being pretty large and heavy.

I think the idea of coins in this day and age is a complete non-starter. Hell, I sometimes go weeks or even months with no paper cash on me anymore.
