I have been currently shaving my head with a pair of Wahl clippers every two weeks with no guard. This leave very little stubble look that I like. I started using it more often and it is rough on my delicate skin leading to ingrown hairs. I went out and bought a Virtually Indestructible Remington Foil Shaver 5100 thinking I could just shave with the stubble guard everyday before or in the shower. I am finding out that this is not getting all the hair and I have patches of hair growing in the spots it misses. No ingrown hairs but it is taking longer to make sure I get all the spots. I have been looking at the Remington HC4250 but the reviews are so mixed with the battery and motor. I really like the portability b/c it is easier to travel with. I don't want to go completely bald with a shaver just really close to it. Would something like a rotatory shaver with stubble guard work better? In war, truth is the first casualty. I've got the Remington HC4250 and have no problems with it. Battery and motor work fine. Caveat is that I only use it every two weeks with the 2mm guard to maintain the look I want. Rest of the time it sits plugged in.

I've had good luck with the Norelco Multigroom 5100. Had it about 3yrs now. I use it on my head but not much on my face. Although it could be used on the face, I have a Norelco shaver (8240XL purchased in 2009) for the face. I've never used just the bare blade of the 5100, so can't speak to that. The included hair clipper attachments go as low as 1mm (.039 inches). One attachment starts out at 3mm (just less than 1/8") and that's the one I use to cut my hair. The attachments will extend out to 20mm. Also included are nose/ear trimmer (real handy for my ear hairs, pretty neat for the nose too), (small) foil "shaver" (about like a Remington foil shaver. Not even close to nearly as smooth as a Norelco rotary) and smaller bare blade attachment. The 5100 has self-sharpening blades, made of chromium steel. The Norelco 5100 can be used in the shower and is easily cleaned by rinsing. Glides very smoothly with the attachments. The 5100 is smaller than regular hair clippers and handles like an electric shaver. Noise and vibration is more like a shaver than clippers too. 1mm is pretty short stubble and no ingrown hairs. Read some of the reviews (3,223) and check the answered questions (218) in top of the review section. Might be what you're looking for. ... and I just got this today from Amazon LOL. WAHL 79434 Clipper Rechargeable Cord/Cordless Haircutting & Trimming Kit. Got it for several reasons. Head pops off for easy rinse cleaning. The handle body isn't waterproof though. Cordless. And the main reason is the attachment sizes ... No. 1/2 (1/16inch length) No. 1 (1/8inch length) and No. 1 1/2 (3/16 inch length) ... and other attachments I'll likely never use, including the ever popular No. 2 (1/4inch length). These are like regular clippers, noise and size vibration wise. Unlike most clippers, there is no lever on the side to adjust blade positioning. I don't want or need that though. Cord/Cordless and those three lengths work for me. Doesn't glide as smoothly as the Norelco 5100 mentioned in my last post though. I didn't really mention size of the 5100, and although slightly larger, it has a cordless toothbrush size feel to it. LINK: https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://skullshaver.com/produc...head-and-face-shaver Does not quite get down to skin but does a great job. I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.

This may be one of those "never knew i needed that items". How often do you use it? I shave my head with a razor twice a week and its getting old. Do you use it daily? Does it irritate the skin? Looks water safe, do you use yours in the shower? 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

I sprung for the Remington HC4250 at target today. Had a gift card so I got it. The first shave went well. Gets that stubble look and was not rough on the skin like the Wahl clippers. I hope it will work out in the long run. The ergonomics is amazing compared to the standard clipper. The 5100 is on deck if this one fails. Thank you everyone for the advice. Merry Christmas. I use it every other day although I'll use a razor once a week. I use regular foam with it as it says not to use gels and you can use it in the shower. Rinses easily and gets pretty close to skin but not as close as a razor. I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.

After consideration, the 5100 may not get close enough for what you're looking for. This evening I used the 5100 at the lowest adapter setting without going to bare blade. This is 1mm. MAYBE bare blade would work for you but I'm not doing it ... not yet anyway. At 1mm, rub my head and it feels like 180 sandpaper. Sorry for the scary pic. Don't have my dentures in. This was literally me about a week ago. Got a "wild hair". Me with Sugar when she was a couple years younger. I've been cutting my own hair at least for about the last 35yrs. Last time at the barber was sometimes in the 90's.

Thanks Hobbs for the pics. The 5100 might get bought sometime. I like to have a back up. In war, truth is the first casualty. Aeschylus Greek tragic dramatist (525 BC - 456 BC)
