I just managed to score four old 2-seat lift chairs. I want to make swings out of them, similar to the below. I need someone to fab the "stands". What kind of shop would I call to do this? Welder? Metal fab shop? Bonus points if you can point me to someone in the greater Augusta GA area.... The chair I'm getting: I want a "stand" kind of what's like on this. Material would be square tube steel to match the chair. Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet. - Dave Barry "Never go through life saying 'I should have'..." - quote from the 9/11 Boatlift Story (thanks, sdy for posting it)

DIY? Younsay you want to use square tube, go get it and make the simple "A" frame ends. Use "L" brackets to affix two pieces together then add cross member. Find an old swingset someone is giving away.... What is shown looks to be 20' of 1 1/2" or 2" black iron pipe bent in half. A metal fab shop can do it. Likely to cost more than you expect.

The best machine/fab shop that I've worked with is Robert's Precision Tool & Repair at 870 N. Hicks Street in Harlem, Georgia. If you can draw it, they can make it.

Bonus points, that's near Augusta! I managed to snag 4 of the chairs. Two are for me. One is for my brother (sent him a pic before I bought, he was definitely in!), and one is a present for my daughter. Thanks! (More suggestions welcome also.) I worked in a machinery repair shop for several years. I used to say “ If the farmers and contractors can break it, we could figure out how to fix it”. Find a shop that does that kind of repair work, they can make anything you want.
