Yes, I have a new job. After some years trying to fix the fuckery from within, I've solved it by moving on. This has been a long process, and I never set out to assume that I didn't need to change or do things differently. In fact, though I did make changes to how I managed people and other things, it was to no avail.

Without going into the depths of nonsense that I've left behind, let's just say that some people consider being told they've done something incorrectly "disrespectful." No matter how non-judgmentally or whether "we" is used.

Yeah, I can't do anything with that. Especially in a construction environment, where there IS a right way. In fact, there are a number, but the person in charge gets to choose for a reason.

Through all of this, I maintained happy clients and profitable jobs. While being basically miserable because the "help" wasn't helping.

Anyway, that's all over and done.

So, not exactly right this minute, but soon enough a P320 X5 will be mine.

Arc.

That is GREAT to hear, man. It is not fun working with or for people that are never wrong. It is no fun to have them work for you, either. I have seen your work on here (and to a lesser extent, in person on my wife's grandpa's take home M1 stock you refinished in a karma) and read the way you talk about building and repairing and fixing to know you are extremely knowledgeable or you keep your mouth shut.

I hope that new role treats you EXCEPTIONALLY well. As for the X5, I am sure you will make it work well!

Congrats on moving on! Managing people can be a little slice of hell in the wrong circumstances and I'm glad you're free of that! In my mid fifties I have considerably less patience for people and their crap than I did in my younger years, so I can relate. Life is awfully short. Enjoy your new pistol - the P320 is a great platform!

Having worked in the construction industry for almost 3 decades, I’ve learned that you can’t polish a turd. Good luck in the future and congrats on moving on!

I'm happy for you that you're moving on and I truly hope you find the grass greener on the other side.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Our best wishes and congratulations! Sometimes the hardest part of the job is knowing that no matter what, the situation isn’t going to change, and it’s time to move on.

My wife works in corporate accounting. Same deal. The last few employees took it personally when she told them they did something incorrect and needed to re-do it. It's not personal dumbass, it just needs to be done correctly.

Best description I’ve heard !
I work for the Feds and it’s all about processes instead of people? Talk about a cluster.
Enjoy the X5 and the new gig.
I recently acquired a HK45, although I only changed jobs in my mind; my safe is getting full.

I completely get your description

Congratulations Arc. Best wishes on your new endeavor.

It's all positive, and indeed a great weight has been lifted.

One thing I think is important, is that I've not burned any bridges, and certainly the phone calls, texts and email I received from coworkers and subcontractors has been heartwarming.

Everyone is replaceable, but if you're really good at your job, you're really hard to replace. Make an effort to be hard to replace.
