I would like to ask my FB friends for a favor, if you are of a mind to. My cousin Suzanne's father was murdered back in 1978, he once said that he felt more affinity with our side of the family than his own, so I suppose that I could say he was my cousin, too. His name was Robert Aylward. His murder was the third and most horrific and ghastly that the indescribable piece of filth perpetrated. This lowlife has periodically been considered for parole, beginning back in 1992 and so far, happily, he has been turned down. That time has come again, he is up for consideration this September. Instead of in-person meeting with the Parole Board the sessions are to be done either through Zoom, snail mail or email. This, then, is the favor I ask. I would like to ask that you might take a moment of your time and contact the Board and express your opinion that Glendal Rider (I despise even having to type out his name) simply must remain where he is, incarcerated, where he cannot be of any threat. A number of has strongly felt that, were he released, my cousin's family could be in danger, as well as the WPD officer who recaptured him after escaping from a hospital for the criminally insane. And even if he didn't manage to do that, what innocent person he might come into contact with could be in jeopardy? As I told the members of the Parole Board during the last hearing "He is a predator, plain and simple, it would as releasing a wolf unto the fold".

I have known Clubleaf206 for over 40 years. I started my law enforcement career on the Wichita Police Department in 1978. Members here that are either retired, or current law enforcement; or have been or know someone who was the victim of a violent crime, know that the families suffer the lifelong impact of that crime. That pain is brought back each time the possibility of parole comes up. They can either come forward and do their best to keep these sub animals in prison, or just give up and hope that the parole board makes the right decision.

Glendal Rider escaped from the Larnard State Hospital in 1978. He had already committed two murders. One victim was a James Jackson, who was killed in 1974 and was at that time an escapee from prison. Jackson was badly beaten and shot five times with a .45 pistol. His body was found by some hunters.

Robert Aylward was a gun collector. In his collection, in 1978, was a .45 pistol that unbeknownst to him had been used in the killing of James Jackson four years earlier. Rider broke into the Aylward home to get that .45 pistol. At the time Robert was the only family member home. He was stabbed five times, and his throat was cut. Weapons stolen from the house were later recovered, the .45 pistol which was the intended object of the break in was not taken and was recovered at the scene.

Our justice system is designed to protect the rights of the accused, and those who are innocent. Which is how it should be. But the victims also have rights, and a lot of time they are the ones who get overlooked and are left behind. It doesn't matter that you are not connected with this particular crime, the parole board needs to be reminded of the lifelong pain that the victims carry with them.

Call me a dick or cruel if you must but I'm a firm believer there are people who cannot be rehabilitated and keeping them in prison is a waste of taxpayer dollar.

That asshole mentioned above, child molesters, those who victimize the elderly, etc. all fall into that category.

A minor correction, my cousin was stabbed 17 times and when you say his throat was cut in reality, he was nearly decapitated. Using one of his own hunting knives. They (Rider had his girlfriend with him to gain entry) tortured him to get that .45 back.

Myself, that's what I'm hoping is meant, too. At the time of his convictions the Death Penalty wasn't on the books in Kansas. I told the parole board my sentiments about it at a previous session, and that if I couldn't have him not be in existence that he be kept in a very small box the had to have air and sunlight pumped into. One thing that has changed in our favor is that a few years back changes were made in some powers of the parole board, they can review cases under what would be the guidelines were someone convicted today, such as Hard 40, Hard 50 and Life with parole.

I went to email a request to the KDOC to keep this animal locked up but the address given got kicked back as undeliverable. If you have an alternative Email for the Parole Board, please pass it on to me.

Actually there was a movie with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman< I think it was called seven, where a guy slowly tortured a guy
to death that took about a year. That would satisfy me.

There is now, however at the time Rider was sentenced it wasn't available. LWOP is an alternative in states that have the Death Penalty. Kansas did not have the Death Penalty back in 1978, so there was no LWOP either. Unfortunately, it is not a sentencing guideline that can be applied retroactively by the parole board.

Do you have a link to news reports or court documents on this case? I searched online for more info on this POS, but all I can find is info on his drug store robbery and subsequent murder, and related appeals and lawsuits. Nothing on your cousins father's case.

I tried to find any article that may be out there without success. I don't know if my local paper would be of much use. And thank you for contacting the PRB, my fervent wish would be for him to expire, in an especially painful manner, and we could be done with him and not have to bring these emotions back to the surface. However, keeping him incarcerated where he can't inflict his evil on anyone else works too.

I'm told that he has a heart condition (he's in his 70s now). It would be nice if he had a long, excruciatingly painful, fatal coronary. I know that isn't very Christian of me, however I'm not always a good Christian.
