I was 11 years old when the Mustang came out. It was the year of the New York World's Fair. Ford had a ride where you rode in several different models of Ford autos, including the new Mustang convertible. My parents took us and I was hoping that I would get to ride in a Mustang. When it was our turn to board the ride, we ended up in a Galaxie, which was the model my grandmother drove! I was a very disappointed kid.

After several summers of chopping tobacco and sloughing soft crabs, I bought a used 67 Mustang as my first car in high school. It was a notch back with a V8, two barrel, automatic, and I enjoyed it. But my two best friends had Mustang convertibles. I was a bit jealous.

Now I have two Mustang GT convertibles, a 2004 and 2017. Great cars.

A couple of years ago, I was at a classic car show. They had a car just like my grandmother used to have, a 1961 Galaxie Starliner. I wasn't impressed when I was a kid, but I was impressed as a retiree. They sure don't make them like they used to.

Well, the first 1966 wasn't a hot rod, but it did have a 4-speed on the floor and drove very well. The one I have now has an automatic trans--I had ordered one from the builder with a manual, but he had built one for the guy ahead of me, who decided he didn't want it and so I bought it (saved 6 months build time)--it was pretty much what I'd wanted, except for the trans. Now that I have leg problems, the auto is a nice item. The 1986 had a 5-speed manual trans. The 2006 has an auto.

I don't have photos of my first 1966, but it would have looked like the current one except red all over. Love the notchback look!

Every 4-wheeled vehicle I have owned was made by Ford (Mercury is Ford), including 2 pickups with 460cid engines--dual exhausts and loved the sound!

And the 2006: Must06_0047 by David Casteel, on Flickr (before it had front plate)

BTW: USAF put me in Labrador in 1964 and I took a few weeks leave from there and used part of it to visit the NY World's Fair. Photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/...s/72157632931804561/

I knew there was something I liked about you. The same is true of me. Never owned anything but a Ford, but Mrs. Flash had a Mercedes for a lot of years. She ultimately sold it and got a Ford Ranger.

Only had one pickup, with a 390 CID engine and 3/4 race cam, 2-1/2" exhausts and glass packs.

Went there a few times with my cousin when I was 13. We took the bus and train from NJ to Flushing Meadows and road that ride several times. They had the Mustang on display
ay which was one of the first off the line.
