The Army found it very difficult to get soldiers to volunteer for these tests.

That seems like a random ass number. LOL.

Did they assign an NSN?

Did the military lose all the data from thousands of IED explosions over the last 20 years?
Hell, there are survivors they can *talk* to that can tell them all about it. They paid for the treatment! What’s the point?

I would imagine that testing new protective gear and observing its effectiveness on real human bodies would be quite valuable and save lives in the future.

I like that the name of the guy who ran the place was "Gore." It's just so fitting.

Wow, very mixed feelings over this.

My father in law lived in Maricopa County (Sun City) when he passed away in 2011. His sister took care of the final arrangements and as he had little to nothing other than personal possessions, she wasn’t sure how to pay for the expenses. She found a place where if she donated his remains they would do some “limited medical testing over a short period of time” (3 mo if I recall) then take care of the cremation and return the ashes. My wife and her brother both agreed with the sister’s decision.

The name of the organization was the “Biological Resource Center”, the same outfit. Never heard of this raid or the issues with the facility until now. I would expect that the Feds would go through records and contact family members of those who made “donations” in the interest of disclosure or the investigation.

Here is where the mixed feelings come in...

My father in law was an absolute ass, piece of shit, weasel, pervert, who did many things I will not discuss. From the day I met him, I always got a serious “Sleeze” vibe from him. Suffice to say that when he asked me a few years after I married his daughter if she was “good in bed” it confirmed everything I suspected about his character. The only thing that kept him from an ass kicking then and there was my wife and kids were in the next room. We had little to nothing to do with him after that and he was no longer welcome in my home.

When I got the call from the hospital as the “next of kin” notification when he died, I actually took some joy in hearing he had suffered a debilitating heart attack, then laid unnoticed in his driveway for an undetermined period of time (estimated as 3-5 hours) before dying of the heart attack complications and heat stroke.

As a Christian man I know that such thoughts are wrong and I have apologized for them many times over the years. We are all sinners and it is not my place to judge, but that is hard to do when someone hurts those you love.

After reading this, I now sit here with that part of me again released and hoping his remains were among those who suffered great humiliation and abuse at that facility. I know it is wrong, I should not take joy fantasizing that he was subjected to such acts. I know after death the soul is gone and it is just “parts”. However I am human and there are some things I will never forget and things I may never bring myself to forgive.

I had finally put this “away” years ago, but now it is back to haunt (taunt?) me.

Don’t mean to be a downer, I am ok with the dark humor that goes along with stories such as this...carry on.

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

strange. my state has a law against "abuse of a corpse" I wonder if blowing one up is covered under this law.

“abuse of corpse” includes treatment of a corpse by any person in a manner not recognized by generally accepted standards of the community or treatment by a professional person in a manner not generally accepted as suitable practice by other members of the profession, as may be defined by rules applicable to the profession. [1971 c.743 §225; 1985 c.207 §2; 1993 c.294 §1]

I think if you donate a body to a place ran by a dude who's name is "Gore" you get what you get. Eek

I never cared what happens to the dead, only the living. I couldn't care less what happens to my body after I'm gone....only about the effect it would have on my family. Anything that makes them feel better is groovy with me (cremation, open casket, large headstone, tiny plaque...piss on my grave...up to and including gettin' 'sploded!)

I sell final expense insurance, and one of the common objections I hear is, "Well, I'm donating my body to science." Yeah, when you're 100 lbs. overweight, chain smoke, drink five beers for breakfast and have amputations due to disease, there's not too much they need to use your body for to research other than stuff like in the OP. Nothing wrong with that, but be aware of what you're agreeing to. They only take your body if they need it at the time of your death. If you're very healthy, die at 100 and they have a stack of bodies likes yours waiting for med. schools to use, they're not going to need you. If there's no doubt whatsoever why you died, it's a common cause, they're not going to need you. So you may end up in an experiment like the story in the OP. Again, nothing wrong with that.

Hatred is as much an act of devotion as affection.

Freedom can only be found in forgiveness. I won't say it's easy, but every minute you think about him is one minute you're giving to him, of your own accord. Sounds like he's misspent enough of his time, and yours.
