12131 posted a /gorgeous/ 228 that gave me the inspiration for a quick fundraiser to set up a collector’s club, with Para as the curator, and 12131’s 228 as the proposed first acquisition. So far, I haven’t had a chance to talk it over with Para yet, so would like to hear thoughts on pro/con of collector club or similar thing that could also be used for benevolent purposes (eg bereavement of SF members, medical bills etc.) Is this something I should approach Para about? This message has been edited. I absolutely think you should ask Para about this sort of thing. IIRC, he can be quite modest about accepting money. I do like the idea of those of us who get so much from our little band of friends doing what we can to keep the doors open perhaps in an annual fundraiser or such like. But I am also curious about how you see this working, chip in and buy the pistol from Q, then gift it to Para? Or simply raise funds, and let him make the buy? As the caretaker of the collection (I can envision members contributing firearms as well as money), does this obligate Para to present/display the collection to SF members who come calling on him, or at some sort of annual SF retreat/shoot? As sort of a traveling SF museum if you will. | |||
