I need a bit of help from someone familiar with Powerpoint. I've been asked to put together what's essentially a slideshow for a funeral this weekend. No problems putting all the slides together, but the individual I'm doing this for requested that a song automatically play in the background as the slides transition. The business presentations I do many times include small narrations on a particular slide but not music, so I'm struggling with getting this to work how I need it to.

Here's the problem. The slideshow is on a loop (as is the music), but when the slideshow loops, the music rewinds from wherever it is in the song to the beginning, and starts again, which is jarring. I want the song to play in its entirety over and over again, and only start again when the song completes (i.e. not when the slideshow completes and loops). Anybody know how to configure that?

As an alternative, what freeware program could I use to stitch multiple recordings of the song together in? If I went that route I could create a long enough single recording to cover the entire 2 hour viewing. Guess that might provide a workaround.

Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated as I'm trying to build this a couple nights this week and have a lot of images to scan and edit before I can add them to the slideshow.

Windows 10 and Office 365 (for Powerpoint). Going to lend them my personal laptop to run it on.

Couldn't you just run the music in another program and have it loop as well? That way the power point presentation is independent of the music.

Probably, but I would prefer not to do that given 1) it would be difficult to synch up the music with the slideshow to start, and 2) I'm doing this for a couple people who are shall we say, 'technology challenged'.

increase the time between slides to match your song and insert transitions you can slow them down to

If the song cuts out half way through, but the slide show is completed, copy & paste the slide set to double it to fill out the song. You might have to play with some of the timings.

Pick up/download a $69 program called ProShow Gold by Photodex.

Load pics
Add audio (multiple songs if you want)
Loop pics and keep the audio file going
Save to an AVI, MOV, MP4, etc.
Send the file to them and tell them to double click to launch!

Movie maker has a function to match the slideshow to the length of the song.

It has been quite a few years, (and MS always seems to changes things) but I think I "selected all" the slides, moved the end of the slide group to match the end of the music, and then set it to loop.

This was after adding all the transitions and effects, and it worked perfectly.

Great suggestion. I didn't think of it but I recognize this will fix the problem with the least amount of time.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
