Doom and gloom no. Of course, it may not all be doom and gloom. There may be stories of beating the virus, coping strategies, information on medications that seemed to work and those that seem not to, etc.

Maybe combine the thread with one on Global Warming.

Or I could explain the back button on your browser to you. Easy Peasy. Another option would be for you to take a rudimentary reading comprehension class so you know not to click on a self explanatory thread title. Difficult for some, I'm guessing you're in that group. Let's go with the back button (Top left, arrow points left, gets you out of danger)

Learning how to cope, how to take care of loved ones (my son and his wife, both asthmatic, for instance), what support mechanisms are needed (grocery shopping, pharmacy pickup, etc), to name a few is good information. There are plenty more. The wife and I stayed pretty busy dropping stuff off on their front porch. It went on for three weeks. If you don't have support, you're in for a really shitty time during a quarantine. Now smschultz, maybe you could inform us what you know about dealing with covid, either as a patient or care giver, maybe in a global warming thread. Roll Eyes

For the wife and I, we called them twice a day, and got a shopping list. Additionally we dropped off a 30 day supply of freeze dried food. Easy to fix and pretty darn tasty. It was hard for them to give us a complete list, you don't think that well when you feel like shit. We took their two dogs (Aussy and Border Collie) for the duration. It was a bit much for them to take care of the pups. I also did a few emergency house repairs for them. We made damn sure they had their asthma meds (Advair and Albuterol). The wife masked up and unlocked their front door once a day and made both of them talk to her from across the room. Fun times for everyone involved.

Sorry, didn't mean for you get all butt-hurt about this. Eek
I imagine there are support groups for you somewhere.
It is also possible to just post it in the existing thread.
...or in the Global Warming Thread. Smile

I don't need a support group IT guru and I'm not butt hurt. Just pointing out a fact or two for you. I've been through it, you haven't and I sincerely hope you don't have to. Back button, back button, back button. Top left, points left, top left points left... Remember that IT guru, reading comprehension is a bit much for you.

Had it, wasn’t impressed. Not really even sure when I had it. Only that I tested positive for anti-gen.

57 years old, 100lbs overweight, diabetic, Severe sleep apnea, and asthma. Never had a fever, never felt ill.

Obviously others have different experiences, but like so many things there is a range of how folks react and my belief is genetics have far more to do with it than “risk” categories.

I believe all overblown, over hyped and being used for political motives. Number of people dying seems to be pretty stable compared to past couple years. Just dying of COVID all of a sudden instead of the other things.

^^The antigen test does produce a significant number of false positives, unlike the PCR test.

Did they send you for an antibody test to confirm?

Hmm, not sure the difference between antigen and antibody.

Here is what the results said...

” COVID-19 ANTIBODIES, IGG (ONLY FOR PTS W/ SX ONSET >2WKS AGO. HOLD MEGA-DOSE BIOTIN SUPPS FOR 48 HRS PRIOR)

Dear Mr. Wilson,

COVID antibody testing is positive consistent with prior exposure to COVID.”

So maybe it was the antibody test they gave me based on the text of the results???

OK, so you did have an antibody test. Which can still generate false positives, but not as much as the antigen test. You most likely did have it, but there's still a chance you did not.

Yeah, it's confusing and frustrating.

(Antigens are proteins on the surface of the SARS-CoV-2 viral particles. Detecting these is straighforward, but unfortunately similar proteins can trigger a false positive.

Antibodies are proteins produced by your own body, responding to the presence of specific antigens. They are the recon units of your immune system, binding to foreign antigens and marking them for destruction (sort of like calling in an air strike).)

FWIW.

First, disclaimer.

My reasons for posting my experience with the "Chinese Flu", was to let folks know what one person's experience was.

I am going to make my opinion/observation, that this thing, is like many other experiences folks will have with "something" in life. And everyone may have a different experience(s) some things the same, some things different.

My post was in the original " 'rona " thread.

But the short version is that I (being pretty healthy, for an old fucker) who has busted the redline on more than a few occasions, drank, smoked, taken, and otherwise encountered shit I should have said "no" to, and having encountered more things that should have included a toe tag, and would not God have shed Grace on me, including being a "volunteer" for Uncle Sam in things that we won't ever discuss (Fight Club, and YBYSAIA!) and should have punched the ticket long ago, but why I am still here.... (OK, so this version is a short as my circumcised Jewish pecker....) The "truth" of this damned plague, is like so much other lies, deception, mis-information and what all.

You get it, you live, or you die.

Just like life.

If you are afraid to face that reality of the cosmic coin flip, then find a way to check out.

But, please, either get in the fight for life and fight, or find a park bench, and get some goddamn pigeon seed and quietly feed the pigeons, while other people gladly take what life offers.

And that either makes sense or it doesn't.

The understanding is organic.

Bytes, thanks for helping those folks. It's a shame that trying to foster discussion about how people can help others through illness can provoke such disdain or borderline hostility.

Let me just blurt this out. Covid helped kill my father last Wednesday evening. He probably already had pneumonia for a couple weeks before catching the COVID. I came to visit my parents to hear them talk about him getting to a doctor the Tuesday 11/24, before thanksgiving. Saturday morning 11/28, a trip to the ER where he was diagnosed COVID and told to go home for 10 days with no other treatment regime. Next Sunday morning 12/6, an ambulance took him to the ER. After transferring him 2 hours away, and one last phone call with him..... I found myself getting him set up for comfort care Tuesday morning and hospice care Wednesday morning and telling my mom Wednesday 12/9 evening that dad had died. He was 86 years old. So that’s his Covid story.

Mom showed symptoms probably on Friday 11/27. For her, it was like a bad cold with being a lot more run down. Today she still had a cough but no other symptoms. Tested positive by a pharmacy drive thru. She is 85 years old.

My Covid story, got a splitting headache Sunday morning 11/29 followed by a bad cold. Only thing still lingering is some phlegm drainage and a little cough. I too tested positive at the pharmacy drive thru.

If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have been tested. Don’t care what I was sick with, I knew I was sick. Same with my mom. Do I know what type of test was done? No. Don’t care either. My test was done to appease my liberal fraidy cat sister who still hasn’t come to visit her mother. We will be retested tomorrow, time will tell if my sister will come around.

My parents and I are/were not the types to be muzzled/masked in public unless we were/are forced to. Will I change my evil ways and mask up everywhere all the time, even though Covid helped kill my dad?? Nope.

Sorry for grammar and spelling, this was more of a rant. I know I could have made a thread of my own, but I got pissed off about the bullshit above. Please don’t clutter this thread with condolences, my email is in my profile if you feel the need.
