Is it so hard to give a straight answer? You so rarely do.

I'm sure they have someone who speaks English, but do Japanese ATCs learn some sort of standard lingo, or do they have their own that the Marines would need to learn?
English is the official language of air traffic controllers for most of the world, I believe. I'm sure that applies to the military, as well. And when you consider that we've been conducting military exercises with our Asian allies for decades, it's easy to assume there would be little difficulty in U.S. crews conducting operations off foreign platforms.

As someone who has lived in Korea for two years and has friends who have spent a lot of time in Japan, English is almost the national pastime over there. I imagine they will assign personnel who will speak better English than many US citizens. Seriously.

They need to buy all the old F14’s and start building VF-1A, J and S versions.

That is why their current carriers are officially helicopter carriers destroyers.
Or even more precisely, the Japanese term for their modern destroyer-type ships is goeikan, "escort". When the plans were announced to operate F-35s off the Izumo class, it was also redesignated "multi-purpose operations destroyers/escorts". Totally not a carrier, you see.
There is clearly a Japanese need for such a capability. China by now hasn't just Liaoning, ex Varyag, but also their rather similar first indigenous carrier (Type 001A) on sea trials, a bigger Kitty-Hawk-sized Type 002 on the slips to be launched next year, and reportedly started cutting metal for a nuclear-powered Type 003 supercarrier planned for the next decade. Additionally, they have the first of three planned Wasp-sized Type 075 LHDs under construction, though those will likely carry only helicopters since no Chinese VTOL fighter project is known.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has long tried to have Article 9 revised, but has met with considerable resistance both domestically and among neighbors in light of his broader revisionist politics regarding the pre-1945 role of the country. The latter is not just China; relations with South Korea have recently escalated into a proper trade war over long-simmering issues like Korean "comfort women" in WW II and mutual claims on the ROK-controlled Dokdo/Takeshima Islands. In fact South Korea has its own plans for a pair of LPHs twice the size of its current Dokdo class, which could operate F-35s. That's probably aimed as much against Japan as against China.

Tissue?
I give plenty of straight, factual and honest input. I also make a joke whenever I can. A good many appreciate it. It's like a flower, one can choose to partake of its beauty or ignore it, the flower does not care, but the one passing by is either blessed or not by their response to the thing.
There is a flood of "straight" information assailing our senses from every way possible, and some folks need a chuckle.
I can be the most vile and offensive person if it is warranted, but I rather go for funny, even when I miss the swinging trapeze and fall flat on my ass, I am sure someone will even point and laugh.
As for the "Navajo" remark, is was a joke on the "Code Talkers" in the Pacific during WWII, and I think it clever, we could take a poll and ask for straight answers.
But it wouldn't be funny.
Now, back to the hilarity...

Japs were the bastards we defeated 74 years ago.
I don't think using a slur like that would go over well with them today.
This is all about sending a message to China and it's a good move if you ask me.

In proper context I believe it to simply be an abbreviation of Japanese. I don't see it as a slur but given the history I can see why some would take offense.

I think there is a general consensus of what *is* and what *isn't* a slur.
"Japs," "Nips," and "Krauts" are slurs. "Jerrys," "Tommies," and "Yanks" are not slurs.
I don't hold contempt for the Japanese in WWII, just as I don't hold the Germans in contempt. They are both good allies now, and have been for the past 70 years. So, it's not that we are 'triggered' (save that for the snowflake leftists) - we are just disinclined to hear slurs against our good allies.

Consensus huh? Guess I didn't get the SJW memo on that. PC culture is taking over the world. Can't a word just be a simiple synonym or do you have to read the handbook of preferred pronouns first?

Dude. "Jap" and "Japs" has been a slur for years now.
It's got nothing to do with SJW's.

Is that what you call your friends who are Japanese? Nobody has ever used 'Japs' as a term of endearment or, even playful ribbing. It's a slur and always has been. WWII ended 70 odd years ago, it's over with.

Of course, what does WW2 have to do with anything? Jap is just short for Japanese, nothing more, nothing less. I ❤ Japs.
