Beard products, oil,butter,etc
Have had a beard over 35 years most of the time since I got out of the Army. Never really did much to it except wash and trim. Getting older started to get Beardruff (beard dandruff). Since I like black t-shirts this is a problem that needed to be tackled. Ordered me some Viking Revolution Sandalwood Beard shampoo, conditioner, butter and oil. What a difference on my skin not just under my beard but entire face.

All these years I used to just shampoo my entire head and face done, but now I am hooked, my beard is really looking awesome now, getting compliments which never happened before.

So since I have gotten some really great advice and information from this forum over the years I am all ears. Looking for great tips on any type of beard products, scents or care. I know this might hit the wallet and I have barely scratched the tip of the iceberg on beardcare but I am now a believer in something I always thought was unnecessary.

I use Red Pimento Oil and/or Black Castor Oil in mine AFTER washing my face and beard daily.

The issue for me was everything stayed on top of the beard. I needed to start using oil that would penetrate the hair and get down to the skin under the hair. These two oils have worked wonders for my beard and they support beard growth too. I also stopped getting frayed ends because I stopped just brushing my beard and started combing it out. The oils last all day until I get home and then I wash my face and put some more on before bedtime.

You can use either of them or mix them together. I really like the Red Pimento Oil a lot for daytime use because it is thinner. The Black Castor Oil I generally use at night. It's very thick and stays put overnight.

You are now a Fancy Lad

I too just wash the beard with soap, only a goatee though. I do need something for my face, may try it

I have had my beard a little over a year now, and I get beardruff. A guy here recommended using a beard specific shampoo and a balm. Oh, and a good barber since I butcher myself with the Wahl. Big Grin

My question...oil versus balm? Is a beard length/density thing?

Yep. Hair, face, beard, neck, and everything else. Just soap. Homemade.

I can't stand having greasy anything. Never could understand how some folks can slather that stuff all over. And you do it twice a day? How do you keep your sheets and pillow cases from getting that grease/oil all over them? Yuck. YMMV.

I have always been blessed/cursed with oily skin though. Perhaps that helps negate supplementation.

Try it out! There are so many companies selling the expensive stuff and labeling it all these catchy names that it's easy to spend good money that you don't have to spend. A 4oz bottle of Red Pimento is $8 and will last a good while. Black Castor Oil is also very cheap for the 16oz bottle. Check Amazon out.

I went from 20 years with a goatee to letting it keep growing in Nov 2020, I call it my protest beard. Wash with beard guyz wash and tame. Then apply daily grind beard moisturizer and conditioner, lasts all day and no greasy feeling.

I believe it's made here in Midland but I buy it online. Lots of good scents that my wife likes.

Gustofer, thats what I always thought since I had oily skin I did not want to add more to it. But then I read how oily skin can cause dandruff so I figured what the heck. I was surprised the beard oil and butter I am using did not make my skin or hair greasy or oily but softer. Never had bad skin but it really cleared up the little acne I did have.

Thanks for the advice Kev, always a fan of value for money.

The way I understand it according to Youtube videos, oil for skin and hair nourishment, balm for shaping and nourishment.

Thanks Bald1, I did a search before I started the topic but did not find these.

FYI - the advanced search function returns an order of magnitude more results with one simple change. By default the "order by" is set to "relevance", but the simple change is selecting "Date." For some unknown reason this drastically increases the number of threads found in a search despite common sense saying it only changes the order of the results.

I put butter and garlic on everything I eat and it just ends up there.
The dogs like it too.
