Teen Stabbed to Death as Others Video

NASSAU COUNTY, N.Y. (WCBS/WPIX/CNN) - Police say some of the final moments of 16-year-old Khaseen Morris’ life were recorded on cell phones and streamed on social media.

"They videoed his death instead of helping him," said Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick, a Nassau County homicide detective. "Kids stood here and didn't help Khaseen. They would rather video this event."

Police say dozens of people watched an unarmed Morris get stabbed earlier this week outside of a strip mall and did nothing to help.

"There's got to be about 50, 60, 70 kids here. We have a handful of kids that have come forward that have identified subjects involved in this. There is definitely more," Fitzpatrick said.

Morris was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Investigators said the fight Morris was involved in was over a girl.

"It's over a common girl and the perception of who she might be dating or who she might be hanging with," Fitzpatrick explained.

Homicide detectives are now urging - and warning - witnesses to come forward.

"You need to get out in front of this,” Fitzpatrick stressed. “After I put handcuffs on you is not going to be the time to be helpful for you."

Officials said police presence has now been beefed up around the school and the area where the fight took place.

"You guys took my brother away from me and my family," said Keyanna Morris, the victim’s sister.

At least one person has been arrested and charged with Morris’ death. That suspect is expected to be arraigned Thursday.

Reminds me of Seinfeld finale. Past threads have indicated jurisdictions have a law on the books where the bystanders could be charged for failure to render aid or deferred indifference. I think the laws originated several generations ago where NYC bystanders watched a woman beaten to death on sidewalk.

Not long ago there was a guy in a residential area who got attacked by a bobcat and as he was trying to fight off the cat another neighbor just stood there and shot video....Asshole!

Good grief...like a modern day Kitty Genovese, except worse. I think most of the people who did nothing for Kitty thought someone else would, they didn't all stand idly by while not not giving a shit.

My thoughts exactly. Just like the so called gun problem in America. It's not a gun problem it is a society problem with people just not giving a damn about other human life any longer. It's now cool to be the next viral sensation even if it means you are a complete idiot.

I have a friend that is an EMT and she said that one of their biggest concerns during traffic accidents now is watching out for all of the idiots coming through the area with their cell phones stuck in their faces and out car windows instead of focusing on saving people's lives.

This story and your story bring up an interesting point. Jump into a bobcat fight and you're going to get your ass kicked really hard too. Guaranteed. Jump into a fight where someone is being knifed will probably not end well for you. Taking videos of either event is beyond fucked up. Call the cops? They'll be too late. If you're armed you can end it. The bobcat fight is a no brainer. Would you do it in the knife fight?

It's nearly 30years since I attended high school and sounds like not much has changed. Fight breaks-out or, confrontation happens, everyone would rather stand around watching and cheering. MAYBE, somebody contacts an 'adult' maybe, usually it was the stampede to go watch that caught the attention of somebody in authority. Today, the spectators are still there, only they're recording it.

Maybe new gun control laws will help. Oh, wait.......

Bytes brings up a good point, but do something besides taking a video. Crap on a cracker!

Ive done it with dogs nashing it out. Why not? A nice piece of pipe, 2x4, my brass belt buckle. Maybe even coach the crowd to" Lets go get that F'r". Better than standing by doing nothing.
