Police footage shows cop warned knife attacker before shooting him
I hope the lawman feels no guilt or maybe if i’d of done this? The Thug got exactly what he wanted.
Any PTSD counciling for the lawman should be paid for by the thugs family. Bill them for the bullet and gun cleaning.

This is obviously a suicide by cop situation. What the fuck are the BLM folks getting mad about?
Dude assaults cop with two deadly weapons, first a car then a knife. He knew damn well what was coming in ACT III.

Years ago when teaching officer survival I began my classes with the statement, "There is someone out there right now who wants to kill you. The reason you are both still alive is that you have not yet crossed paths. Hopefully they never will. If it happens, your preparation is your advantage". Here is a fine example. The officer's skill coupled with his rapid OODA cycle won the day. Job well done.

Four actually; the flashlight and the man himself. This guy was no wilting flower- he was an aggressive attacking animal- shades of Michael Brown.
Imagine if Darren Wilson had been using a body cam. Ferguson might have turned out quite differently.

One of the short-comings of center-line body cams, is the officer's arm that partially covers the lens while he's working the mic to his radio.

This was a straight-up ambush, with multiple acts of violence involved.
He likely intended to disable/distract the officer with the car wreck, and then kill him before he could defend himself.

The officer should have been more alert exiting his vehicle. The assailant could have finished him off easily if he had just stayed on him instead of backing off.
You could hear the panic in his 'whoa' 'whoa' at the beginning. Entirely oblivious as to what was happening. Doubt he even realized the assailant had even exited his vehicle.
He was lucky more than skilled, but it was GREAT seeing him WIN.

Has to be a suicide by cop incident.... who would attack a cop with a knife especially a little one like that guy had?
Quite bizarre to say the least.....

Or maybe it is one of Obummer's "sons" who hated cops so bad and was a true BLM believer taking their kill and ambush cops bullshit to heart. Yep, suspect may have been mentally ill which led him down this path to an assassination attempt.

I don't understand why the cop didn't just fire a non lethal shot at the perpetrator. He had a clear shot at the guy's legs, and if he had aimed and shot one shot thru the leg (but not the bone, that would do a lot of life threatening damage), or the arm (in the fleshy part, so's he could still open beer cans with both hands), or maybe just even wing him on the foot meat, that would do the job. There was no basis to shoot this guy, especially twice, and the cop was trained to think fast, which means the cop obviously contemplated his options and elected to kill the victim without even giving due consideration to the fact that, if the victim's flashlight were a quality instrument like a Surefire, there would be significant scratch and jarring damage to the flashlight. This will result in a greatly decreased resale value on the light, which is a real pity.

Because most people have only seen the video, and know absolutely nothing about the bolded part above.

I disagree with this tactical assessment. The officer was not on the way to a call where he had time to prepare for conflict. The officer was ambushed and taken completely by surprise. He responded very quickly to verbally challenge and assess what was happening while taking evasive action, which the assailant was not prepared for and which reset the assailant's time scale. The officer would have been trained to shoot only as a last resort and would have been considering courses of action. Once he decided he took decisive and effective action (which is where the gun skill is apparent), and reassessed from a position of cover. I will use this video in my classes to illustrate how quickly the OODA Loop works in close combat. A job well done.

Couldn’t agree more. When was the last time anyone drew down when bailing out of the vehicle after being rear ended in traffic? The answer is never. He recognized the threat and dealt with it accordingly.

His OODA loop was more of a fruit loop.
He exited his vehicle thinking it was an accident and was absolutely oblivious the assailant had exited his vehicle, had something in his hand and was advancing. By the time he spotted it - there was contact - and it appears he ended up either falling or was knocked to the ground. If the attacker was not as inept as he was - and had a combat knife or a machete - we'd have been watching an entirely different video.
"Evasive action"? I guess getting surprised, getting knocked on your ass (or losing your balance) while bleating utterances like 'whoa', 'whoa', 'holy shit, fuck fuck, fuck', 'get away from me' and hoping the assailant isn't a good one - is trained where exactly?
I've only seen it when prey animals are under attack. Their plaintive squeals are notable. Surprised you didn't take note of them here.
Here is the unedited video. Listen to the officers audio. Pure panic.
In the video, it was 15 seconds from the time the officer noticed the assailant advancing until he ended the threat. He spent the majority of that not having any idea what was happening and completely vulnerable.
Explain to me how that great OODA loop was working if this assailant had a firearm?
Also, point out where the officer moved to cover, because I must have missed that. Does getting knocked ass over teakettle to the ground count as moving to 'cover'?
Is having your feet higher than your head an aid in 'assessing' the correct action to take?
Hear the bleeps? Those are the officers swear words indicating he senses he is about to die because he has placed himself at a great disadvantage by being in condition white.
Do they train officers to swear due to absolute panic in OODA training?
Sure, he was lucky. He was afforded the time to regroup and engage.
Because his assailant is an idiot is the only reason why.
Whatever training this officer has had, he either wasn't using it or it failed him.
The video illustrates what I am saying.
It does not depict anything you mention.
15 seconds.
Quick OODA loop?
I disagree. For all the reasons I posted.
And what the video actually shows.
NOTE: The flashlight seen in the assailants hand is Officer Mattsons. It was apparently dislodged somewhere in the OODA loop as he engaged the ground and the assailant had time to pick it up.

Where did I suggest that?
I suggested the officer should have been more aware as he exited his vehicle.
Again, the video poignantly demonstrates that.

Wait a minute. You guys are arguing about this and second-guessing the officer?
Cease and desist.
You want to talk about the incident? Go ahead, but no arguing, and no second-guessing. I'd say that the man has been through enough aready, wouldn't you?
