Last time the wife ordered a pizza for delivery (several years ago) they added a $3-4 "fee" that doesn't go to the driver apparently, AND THEN you have to tip the driver another $5 or more.... so I nipped that right in the butt. I'm not paying $8-10 for delivery when I am perfectly capable of driving 5 minutes up the road to pick it up myself....

In this day and age if the place is close I think $5 is the bare minimum tip you should give a driver. If its farther off or more rural, that $5 needs to bump up a few dollars.

If you are doing grocery delivery where they shop for your items for 45 minutes and then drive it to your house, the tip should be north of $10, probably closer to $15 or $20.

I tip the pizza folks at least $5, IF they deliver a hot product. If it's been an hour and it's cold, you get what you get.

We don't deliver groceries (did it once, tipped her $15, IIRC). We pick up at Kroger though, and the tip is generally commensurate with the amount of products they brought us that we ordered. In other words, if you bring me a long list of things I didn't get because they're out, and I know you aren't out but just didn't want to work for it, no tip. Otherwise, usually in the $5 range for them. If they get it all, $10.

I delivered a bottle of Jameson one night and the woman answered the door in bra and panties only. It must have been one heck of a party!

Wait, you didn't say how much she tipped you.

That's because her pocketbook was inside in her bedroom and you had to follow her there...

Cue the BowChickaBowBow music....

I know, it's the first thing that I thought about. She was early thirties with a great body. I don't remember her face. Don't remember the tip either. Cold shower time!

The only thing I ever have delivered is pizza. The driver gets paid by the pizza joint (probably minimum wage) and the pizza joint charges me a "delivery fee" which is presumably what they pay the driver from. I always give the driver an extra $5 in cash (not on the credit card I paid for the pizza with).

I gotta wonder how many of the previous posters had jobs where tips came in to play, as payment for a job well done.

Pretty much a flat $5, because food I get delivered is an order of under $30 (there are only two of us), and that is about 15% to 20% of the total.

First, I tip for courtesy and excellent service, and I won't hesitate to stiff servers who are rude, preoccupied, or otherwise fail to measure up.

That said, I regularly use $5 bills these days and I always keep several in my pocket. Pizza delivery, on time and delivered with a smile, okay. Breakfast at a diner, okay. Bartender at my club, okay. Nice dinner with my wife, good food and good service, 20-30 percent is about right.

Those I rely on regularly and have a friendly relationship with usually receive a Christmas card with a $20 bill.

The guy who delivered my newspaper for years always had it within a foot of my front door at 5AM, so he got an extra $10 every month at collection time. After his retirement, the replacement carrier usually gets around by 8:30 or so and throws the paper at the end of the driveway, so she gets paid for the subscription only.

Day bartender at my club is a nice middle-aged lady taking care of her grandchildren, one with some health problems. I leave a $50 for her every couple of weeks.

But I'm old, retired, debt-free, and in pretty good shape financially.

Most posts are regarding food deliveries. Today we're expecting delivery of a new refrigerator. Will be two guys. Also removal of old one and removal of doors on both which we pair for in the store

Walkout basement, no stairs involved. Maybe $20? More? Less?

That's what I thought, too, when I read the thread title. Big Grin

Alas, we're talking about food delivery. I rarely order food from restaurants, so I tend to be pretty generous with the tips when I do. $10.00 for a pizza delivery, for example.

I found what you said riveting.
