BeancookerWater consumption - how much per day - (health related question)
How much water should a person drink each day? Mia (Mrs. Cooker) says we should each drink half a gallon per day. Roughly 4 pounds of water (I know it’s not exact, but for estimations it’s close enough).
I weigh ~165 lbs. so I should consume 2.5% of my body weight in water per day.
Mia weighs 110 lbs if her pockets are full. So according to her "half gallon/day” she is consuming 3.6% of her body weight in water.
So should it be a set quantity or a percentage. Percentage makes more sense, but then, what percentage is it?

Now does the half gallon include other liquids like milk, juice, coffee, soda?

I drink about 32 oz water each day. I also have about 32 oz coffee, sometimes a soda at lunch, and about 24 oz of beer in the evenings. Mia thinks I am dehydrated. I think I’m fine. I never have dark urine, or any issues that would make me think I’m dehydrated.

So what is the Sigforum consensus on water consumption?
Any of the doctors in here care to share their thoughts?How much water (just water) do you consume daily (average)=< 8 oz=< 16 oz=< 32 oz=< 64 oz=< 96 oz=< 128 ozHow much other liquids (juice, milk, soda, beer, etc) do you consume daily (average)=< 8 oz=< 16 oz=< 32 oz=< 64 oz=< 96 oz=< 128 oz

Skins2881I drink 6-8 bottles of water (16oz), plus two 12oz redbulls, a soda, and more beer than I'd like to admit to.

MikeinNCI’m going to throw this into your conundrum...she posses more body fat than you and her H2O consumption concentrates that water into a smaller container(not just her size v yours)....so her percentage of intake is higher.
This is why women typically are affected by alcohol intake in lowere doses than men, it’s not just the size/weight.

ggileI find that as the weather starts to cool I drink less and less water. There have been days where I may only drink 6 to 8 oz of water. I actually have to force myself to drink more.

VictimNoMoreI go by the "50% of your body weight in ounces" guideline given me by a friend who owns a health food shop.
Example: I weigh 190 lbs. 1/2 of 190 is 95.
My goal is to drink 95 ounces of water per day.
It seems like a lot...but it really isn't. Using a 1-liter bottle makes it easier.
I don't hit the 95 ounces every day, but do try.

OKCGeneI’ll put it this way.
Your internal organs, especially kidneys and liver, need lots of water for the purpose of keeping things flushed out of your system.
Drink lots of water, keep your body healthy.

This is the way I look at it. Also had an employee of mine pass a kidney stone in front of me. He was curled up in the fetal position wincing in pain for about 10 minutes. From that point on I never saw him without a water bottle nearby.

TRshootemMy kidney Doc says I need 3 liters of water a day, at least 12 oz's of a juice such as lemonade. Since most juices also have a fair amount of sugar, I get organic pure lemon juice from the health food store. I use about 1/3 cup in a pitcher of filtered water and keep it in the fridge. This to help balance my stone making chemistry, and it's refreshing.

mark123I drink when I’m thirsty. There’s no real reason for me to deplete electrolytes just to meet some arbitrary recommendation. I get most of my fluid intake via coffee and ketorade.

6gunsNot to get on you, Mark, but "they" say when you're thirsty, it's too late. And coffee is a diuretic.
Having said that, I know I don't drink enough, but probably close to 32 oz a day. As said, I'll probably drink less as the temperatures drop outside.

hudrI use the 1/2 body weight in ounces rule also. But I only count water. If I drink coffee or a soda, that doesn’t get added to my total.

TMatsI really don’t track it, but typically drink water throughout the day. I clicked on “64 oz.” in the poll, that’s probably pretty close. Not much for juice anymore and I’ll drink a couple glasses of whole milk in a week. Don’t drink beer.
