These are a few of the grads we will be helping out with their student loans.
I hope the “Queering and Decolonizing Theater Practice” folks are hiring. Such bright futures for these kids.

I’ll admit I’m not particularly handy with posting things via my phone.

Maybe you require an account to see it. I don't have one and don't intend to get one.

"My 'concentration?'" Not 'my 'major?'" Technically correct, but I'd never heard that usage before.

I'm gonna disagree. That 'might' have been the most usefully focused 'concentration' in the entire video. I sounds like she could actually get a job in that field...Seriously!

Self-designed majors. Truthfully, these have been around at many schools (usually an "Interdisciplinary Studies" major and a self-designed "Concentration") but historically you needed to make a strong case for WHY you needed to depart from the mix of established majors/minors/elective offerings, generally for a very specific end goal.

Now, it's a way for the school to grant degrees for the kind of useless-on-any-practical-level shite that you see in the video for $60K/year funded by loans that will never be repaid by the actual borrower.

"I want a Business Degree, but I want to skip the parts about Macroeconomics and Microeconomics and Finance and Law and Marketing and Accounting, and instead focus entirely on Post-Colonial Queer Retailing as a Change Agent."

"OK. So that's not actually a thing, but here's the program design form. Select the classes you want to take, and I'll approve it. See you on the stage in $240K."

Fuck me! I’m watching the video and wondering what dumb ass school these kids are attending. Scrolling down I see it’s my daughter’s dream school, NYU. Fuck me.

She does understand she has to pay for it and grad school without loans, so I’ve got that going for me.

A little further research suggests that these students are part of NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study
“Gallatin students develop individualized concentrations under the guidance of the School’s advisers, take core courses within Gallatin as well as courses in the other Schools of NYU, expand their knowledge by pursuing global study opportunities, cultivate experiential and self-directed educational opportunities outside of the classroom, engage with civic life both on campus and in greater New York City, and draw together all that they have learned in the senior colloquium, a final oral examination."

My daughter has no plan’s for being a part of that word salad, so I guess I’ve got that going for me as well.

Nah. I left out the part that said..."fashion through sustainable development".

WTF is that? Good grief.

I'll say it again. We are so screwed.

^^^Honestly, like it or not (and I do NOT!), the whole environmentally conscious/sustainability thing is extremely prevalent in 'fashion' as of late...Think clothes made out of recycled materials, like Polyester (PET), which is produced from plastic resin, so made from oil, AND recyclable, therefore it's a thing! Those 'in fashion' would tend to promote such things, find new ways to do it and fall all over themselves to tell you about it, so there's actually a job market for that! Just sayin'... Wink
