Even though we live within 15 miles from the park, we take this drive 3-4 times annually. Absolutely gorgeous.

Head south, and have a meal at Nepenthe, preferably at an outside table watching the sunset. https://www.nepenthe.com

Actually you'll hit Nepenthe's first but same deal...nice drive

Having lived on the Monterey Peninsula for 30 plus years and being to both places countless times....unless I'm hallucinating... Nepenthes is 8 -10 miles north of Pfeifer state beach. You may be thinking of the post ranch, which is also beautiful (actually a nicer restaurant than Nepenthes) and south of the state beach.

Several of my favorites:

NY - Starting from Rte 12 in CNY, 365 past Hinckley Reservoir and connect with 8. 8 to Speculator and hang a left on 30. 30 to Indian Lake and hang a left on 28. 28 down through Old Forge and the Chain of Lakes back to 12. In the fall, on a motorcycle it is a wonderful trip.

MI/WI - US 2 from the Bridge to (at least) Ashland, maybe Iron River, but Superior is too far.

MT - MT 83 from Bigfork to Clearwater Junction (the Swan Highway). Roughly 90 miles of gorgeous mountains on both sides.

- MT 56 from Troy down to Hwy 200. Only 35 miles, but beautiful. The lower half follows the Bull River with the Cabinet Mountains off to the side.

Let's see, where else...

NV - Breaking off from US 93 in Caliente, head south on 317 through the wash and the desert, connecting up with 93 again. I'd recommend doing it at night. The stars will take your breath away.

There's probably more...

My Dad always said never go up Phantom Canyon road. Always start at the top. As a child I remember in places the road was very tight and cut into a cliff wall. Going down put you on the inside of the road.

Lvov UA to Uzgorod UA through the carpathian mountains.

Used to make this drive once or twice a month back in 2005, most had recently been redone. Very pretty and relaxing as there were not many cars on it.

But not a place to venure through in the winter, in many parts only horse drawn sleighs worked due to zero plowing.

US 6 in PA into E. Oh, good curves and old towns but the tourists ruin it by driving 20mph below the speed limit.
