I am vindicated!

There have been multiple discussions here over the years regarding soft water with many claiming that it actually rinses soap better than hard water. While I have always refuted that claim, my opinion seemingly was dismissed by those who love soft water.

Well...here's the science. Chemistry to be precise.

While I agree that it is likely better on pipes, keeping the calcium and mag of hard water from building up over time, it is not better at rinsing soap. That soft slick feeling in the shower isn't clean skin, it's soap (and fat, and grime) still on your skin.

Don't believe the soft water vendors and their claims. They have one goal: To sell you soft water. So, they lie. Hard to believe a salesman would do such a thing, but there it is. Wink

Squeaky skin. That's what you're after!

and I'll toss in another tidbit

soap isn't a cleaner...its a surfactant

soap decreases the surface tension or interface tensions between the liquid and the solid

water in most cases is the cleaning agent, and you can get almost as clean without using soap if you use enough water

if one doesn't use soap then, is it better to clean w/ hard water or soft water?
