I intend to buy a Ring Doorbell. I'm looking at their website and various sellers.

I can't seem to tell much difference in the various models.

Does one or another have the better/best night vision capability? I'm not sure how important this is because I have a dusk to down porch light with motion detector. From dusk to dawn it's on at its low light power setting, when it senses motion it kicks on the higher power light. I "think" it goes from 40 watts light to 100 watts of incandescent.

I've done some research, just can't see what the different models will really make a difference for me.

Any recommendations? Pitfalls or issues?

Thanks
.

The only thing I can contribute is their top tier model requires an upgraded DB transformer they are cheap, but depending on location may require drywall/paint repairs, but usually they are located in unfinished areas.

Get the Pro. The buffer is better and it’s not affected by the cold.

We have a Ring2 at the front door that's been there for 7-8 months and is very solid performing. I can tell immediately when deliveries are made to the front porch, and I can review the latest history to see if the girls are in or out. Like you we have a porch light that comes on with movement, so there's no problem seeing out into the yard at night.

I installed a Ring3+ onto the garage-end of the house last month to watch the driveway and to see if anyone is shopping my daughter's car. There are motion-detecting floodlights near that location so, again, night visibility is not a problem. I wanted the 3+ in order to get the "pre-roll" feature to possibly see which direction a person came from. I'm still tweaking the sensitivity as it often records a squirrel that likes to play next to the car.

They both stay charged up fine off of the existing 60 yo doorbell transformer.

I'd do them again in a second.

I've had the Ring 2 for 2+ years and have been very happy with it. My house doesn't have an actual doorbell so I just swap out the battery every month or so.

The Ring Pro is a bit nicer but requires an actual power source. You can get a separate Ring power source for the Pro if you don't have a doorbell. If I weren't renting I would go with the Pro. Once I find a house I'll upgrade to the Pro.

Ring pro here. Just hard wire it to existing doorbell. I like it. Has plenty of options. The only thing I didn't like about it, is there isn't any sort of cover to put around it to protect it from snow, ice, rain etcc. So I built my own cover out of plexiglass!

Get the pro model that requires hard wiring.

Constant power source gives the device more headroom with sensors and processing power, allowing a few more seconds of video recording at the beginning of each clip.
