Thank you Very little |
I did not know him personally, but one of my clients passed this along. As we dwindle down the remaining WW2 veterans that walk/live among us, thought I'd pass along the news that we lost the oldest living plank holder from the crew of the USS Hornet CV-12, Worth Goble in eastern Kentucky. From his Obit: During World War II, Worth served his country proudly as a radarman aboard the USS Hornet CV-12. In his later years, Worth told countless stories of his time aboard the most decorated ship in the Pacific fleet and spoke of what an honor it was to defend our freedom. At the time of his passing he was the oldest living plank holder of the ship. Link to Obituary https://x.com/HornetMuseum/status/1624134858892263424 There is also an interview with him on utoob

RIP, hero. Those guys were a special breed. **Note, his ship, CV-12, was the second USS Hornet to serve in WWII. The 'original' Hornet, CV-8, launched the Doolittle Raid and then was sunk in the Battle of Santa Cruz (Oct 1942). She had a very short service life. Hornet II was an Essex-class, which was much larger and more capable, and served a lot longer than her younger namesake. Both ships were amazing, and it would be an incredible honor to meet any crewmembers from either ship. Fear God and Dread Nought Admiral of the Fleet Sir Jacky Fisher

RIP Mr. Goble. Thank you for your service. My daughter and her Cub Scout pack earned the privilege to sleep over night on the Hornet in the same vintage bunks. And we ate breakfast in the enlisted mess. We had received a full tour and had pretty much unlimited access inside. It was huge but also very small and cramped inside. God bless all those men. This message has been edited. Last edited by: ElToro,

The youngest veterans - 18 in 1945 (OK maybe 17) are now at least 97 now. I'm glad things like Band Of Brothers were filmed and had the real men's commentary before they all died. Masters of Air most recently was very well done, except they did take a few liberties with some of the characters that really were not necessary.
