Does anyone have experience with Chase BMX bicycles? I'm older, but love BMX. I'd like a modern bike for exercise.

Specifically, I'm considering the Chase Edge Pro 20.5" top tube. I'm an old school Haro and GT fan, but they're mid-level bikes are beyond my budget.

I’ve never heard of chase but I don’t follow the current BMX bikes too closely. The best way to score a great BMX bike for not a lot of money is to scoop up a late 90’s to early 2000’s bike used from Craigslist, your local bike shop or a yard sale.

Most of the inexpensive new BMX bikes are made in China which sucks.

I got a this specialized from my LBS for $75!

I got this baby for $30 at a local yard sale. Eek

BMX is fun from a nostalgic point but a good 27.5 hard tail with a 160+ mm travel front fork is WAAAAAAY more fun.

GT’s 24 inch pro series is intriguing but I think I’d personally get bored with it too quickly. The nostalgia is neat but having lots of hills in my neighborhood makes single speed BMX bikes quite the workout bike. My LBS has one and the slick tires are pretty cool. I have thus far resisted taking it for a test ride.

GT 24 inch pro

If you do any trail riding and want a bike that can do absolutely anything I would consider a 27.5 hardtail. You can hit jumps and still have fun on trails.

To me this Chromag and bikes like it take the basic idea of a BMX bike with a bomb proof full 4130 chromoly frame with oversized tubing and melds it with a very capable mountain bike. Chromag bikes are not inexpensive (they range from $2-3k) and their frames are about $800 alone but they can do absolutely anything. The 27.5 hardtail category has many more affordable options out there.

There are some pretty decent sized gap jumps in this video. I used to do stuff like this on a BMX bike but modern MTN bike suspension and geometry has spoiled me.

Honestly if you’re feeling the urge for a BMX bike but you’re not 5’4 or lower but you still want a hard tail that’s fun something like a Polygon Xtrada 6 or maybe a slightly higher tier would be more fun for working out and riding. This is the bike that got me into the MUCH more capable but still fun world of hardtail mountain bikes. Plus it’s pretty close to what you’re considering price wise but MUCH more capable for everyday use and exercising. I’m damn near hobbit size at 5-8 and still prefer this over my collection of mid-school BMX bikes.

Bump to the top. Hopefully Beancooker and our other BMX fans will see this thread and be able to offer additional input for Freq Geek. Smile

I wish my parents could find my old BMX racing pictures from back when I used to race (and dominate) at Hampton Supertrack on my custom paint job Powerlite P51. I live less than 10 minutes from a BMX track (I ride my bike to the track often) but sadly I have not convinced any of my four kids to take up racing yet….though I have high hopes for my two youngest daughters who are more like me personally wise. Cool
