Gutsy move! Other Utah troopers have done this at higher speeds. Its pretty impressive they would try this. Being from Utah I am always surprised by how many idiots who cant seem to understand how to go the right way on the freeway. I am also interested to see when one of these idiot drivers gets injured by a trooper how the law suit goes.

Doesn't look intentional to me...looks like he didn't have much of a choice, or anywhere to go. There were vehicles all around him, and he'd have likely hit one of them if he'd tried to change lanes. It's a crappy choice, but I guess I'd rather hit the violator than an innocent bystander. And I'd rather he hit me than some family in a minivan. Good thing the Trooper was in a Tahoe and not a sedan.
A cop in Ligonier PA got killed by a wrong-way driver hitting him head on a few years back. I've dealt with a few, but thankfully never been hit. "But officer, I was just following my GPS!"

Looks like the perp will be paying for his own new car (I'll bet his insurance won't pay based on his illegal driving), a new patrol car for the UHP (big $$ there) and possibly an extended rental fee for the U-Haul trailer. Not to mention fines, court & lawyer fees.
But WTH is it with people driving the wrong way? Are they just stupid?
Did the driver get arrested? Booking photo?

Alertness, quick thinking and willingness to sacrifice himself to protect the public. I’d like to shake that trooper’s hand and thank him for his service.

Trooper had all the latest safety equipment, that old Dodge pickup looks like it didn't even have air bags, or it was disabled, unless its below the door.

Wrong way drivers are an epidemic in Phoenix. I don't know how they do it. Almost all are drunk, but it still seems pretty hard to pull off. Happens just about every weekend here and it's often fatal for others, rarely for the wrong way driver though.
