For single cups or yeti's this Hamilton Beach works well. Not so long ago they cost about half as much. https://hamiltonbeach.com/the-...e-coffee-maker-49981

I have a Technivorm but it’s as basic as it gets. Not sure if they make a programmable one My Girlfriend has a ninja. For not being expensive I have been very impressed with the coffee it makes, it IS programmable ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Live today as if it may be your last and learn today as if you will live forever

I am definitely in the category of super taster/coffee snob! Having three, yes three high end burr grinders and a custom hand built Italian spring lever espresso machine likely qualifies me. Had a French press and got tired of the fiddling required to make a cup (and the grit) so bought a Technivorm. I got the one with the glass pot as I can taste the stainless steel used in vacuum pots. Refuse to use Yeti cups for coffee as they can be tasted also. Love the Technivorm, it makes a great cup of java and could be put on a timer if you want your cup ready when you rise. I don't do that being retired, but each of us has priorities. Highly recommend the Technivorm. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Aeropress. A good electric kettle, a decent burr grinder, decent beans, and an Aeropress will yield a decent single cup of coffee in just two-three minutes. That being said: Ever since acquiring my espresso machine, even the Aeropress doesn't do it for me, anymore. Now I'm making Americano's. Two double-Lungos + about the same quantity of hot water from our electric kettle. Mmmm... "America is at that awkward stage. The Ninja's rich setting uses less water than regular brew setting so there should be water left in the reservoir and the pot shouldn't be fully full.
I enjoy my Ninja CM401 which is SCA rated and makes great coffee as snwghst observed. Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club! USN (RET), COTEP #192

New to this conversation, but I've been thinking about getting an aeropress. Just how critical is water temp and if so, why? I can't just use boiling water out of a kettle on the stove?

You could, but Aeropress recommends 175-185°F. That Aeropress tube is plastic. (That's the big thing I do not like about it.) I don't think I'd be wanting to pour literally boiling-hot water into it. Besides which: Our electric kettle can get water up to ±180°F in the time it takes me to assemble the Aeropress, grind the beans, and pour the grind into the Aeropress. Much, much faster than a pan on the stove. "America is at that awkward stage. Required? No. Handy? Definitely. Our old electric kettle didn't have programmable temperature control. We learned, by way of a kitchen thermometer and careful observation, when the water was around 180°F by the bubbles forming on the bottom of the kettle. Our Miroco electric kettle, though, has been great. Set it to 180°F and forget it. It will either go there and shut off, or go there and maintain it. Not that I've been able to find. If they did: Given the design, what with the lugs on the bottom for the filter holder, I suspect it would be a lot more expensive than the one they do make. And it would probably have to be made of Pyrex® to ensure it wouldn't shatter upon hot water hitting it. "America is at that awkward stage. Well coffee in this part of the world is a sacred ritual. I use a Technivorm along with a burr grinder. Coffee comes from the hippies down at fargin’ Berkeley. I haven’t read all the posts yet. I have been a coffee nut for years . French press got to be too much trouble . I tried many coffee makers and have one that suits me perfectly : cuisinart perfect temp 24 cup programmable. DCV-3200. It comes with a gold-tone filter ( which I rarely use) and a stainless steel carafe in addition to the glass carafe. The water deliver is a large shower head that saturates all the grounds simultaneously . I set the temp on low so the coffee won’t thicken as it waits for me to drink it . It has a bold setting which helps if I accidentally didn’t put a heaping tablespoon for each cup . ( you may like it stronger ). The best coffee grinder I found for the money is the Maestro Plus conical burr grinder by Baratza. It’s great. I only use organically grown coffee. Coffee beans are one of the most sprayed crops on the market. I finally quit buying whole beans, although they do hold freshness longer and taste somewhat better. I got tired of dealing with the grinding. I have used Stumptown, Charleston and any number of other roasters over the years and have found that Larry’s organically grown Coffee from Raleigh, NC to be as good as any I have tasted. I like Pete’s organic coffee as well. The water you use is as important as the coffee . I have a Berkey Water filter that gives the best water I know of other than mountain spring water. In NC we have Food Lion grocery stores that sell water under their name. It’s Food Lion Drinking Water. It comes from a huge underground aquifer in Eastern NC. It is from 200 feet below the surface and it’s filtered of sediment and bottled. Great for coffee. Any water that has the chlorine removed will produce a good cup of coffee . Too much information, I’m sure . Can’t live without my daily four cups of coffee. I have to use decaf now with my PVCs. Larry’s and Pete’s use the Swiss water process and it’s good. I add one tablespoon of the real stuff to add more flavor.

Since nobody mentioned it I am going to throw a Nespresso Vertuo Machine. It is a European version of quick one serving coffee but has a much better system and flavor. Turn it on makes a cup in seconds. Has very good espresso I would say a 7/10 and a very good cup of regular coffee 8/10. It does seem to put some frothing on the top, cappuccino style. Much much better taste than a Keurig. The only downside the pods are about $1.20 each. I have a stainless roll your own coffee pod, but I have not gotten into using it yet, it is available for the coffee snobs that want to use their own coffee. My son bought it for me after he converted to this from his Keurig. Nespresso Barista Masterclass - Your Vertuo Machine Coffee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euGafl2S5Vw

The Technivorm Moccamaster is the bomb. The Cappresso Infinity conical burr grinder is an absolute quantum leap over pre-ground coffee. There may be much better grinders(or there may not, I just don’t know), but the difference between grinding the coffee before and grinding it in the morning, immediately putting it in the filter basket, and turning the Technivorm on is night and day. Will not go back to pre-ground. ensigmatic was 100% right. Went on a trip to a VRBO that had a coffee maker, but no grinder. Had the place we buy our beans grind it for us. Was afraid they had changed something. Nope, grinding fresh before brewing makes that much difference. Next trip took the grinder with. Based on the difference between fresh ground and pre-ground I’d punt the timer, but that’s just me. I’ll have to time it sometime, but starting the kettle to boil water to prevent-heat the mug, spooning the beans into the grinder, grinding, dumping the ground beans in the filter basket and flipping the switch on doesn’t take long at all, and one can pull the first cup pretty darn quick after that.

Bunch of enablers. First the coffee maker, then the grinder, now I gotta add a filter. Para should be getting commission.
