I think the original subsidies should be on the hook for cleanup & restoration. They wanted it so badly, they should clean up if or when project ends.

I like this plan.

Politicians seem to have forgotten that they work for us, not the other way around.

A lot of this crap was supported by both Republican and Democrats administrations, more so the Democrats. However, the Republicans did a good job at rolling over and playing dead too. I use to manage a program in excess of 10 digits and the shear volume of time, resources, and cash thrown away was staggering. It was a solution looking for a problem. In some regards, we did find some alternative solutions, but most of these were for certain critical applications or niche uses. The cost of battery technology for example was driven down exponentially and continues to be so. However, I think mush of this credit needs to go to Elon Musk and Tesla leading the charge.

Years ago, I had a meeting with a then Obama appointee and asked her point blank why the Govt wasn't looking at Nuclear power. You could have heard a pin drop in that room. It was quickly disregarded by a two star and the subject changed. Our office kept pushing the envelope on nuclear and was eventually told to stand down and stop pushing the issue. A few years later I took another job as I was just done of dealing with the political BS that went nowhere.

Would love to see some deep-dive DOGE style forensic accounting on the money trail of these projects and associated subsidies.

100% same goes for many, many "Social Programs" I am sure. I REALLY wish DOGE was more empowered. their website is disturbing, lots of bodies buried the should be dug up for all to see.

Oil is below $60 a barrel, word is the trend is still lower to come. Then you have a major cutback of Government subsidies, which is good.

There will be more, since money is/was propping up many. I don’t care if any stand on their own merit. I just don’t care for artificially propping them up with tax $$.

I don’t see Exxon building wind farms??
